Tom's Guide Verdict
With its adjustable fill and pressure-relieving Tempur material, the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow will suit most sleepers seeking relief from neck and shoulder pain. (It has a 6.5" loft by default, which suited our broad-shouldered, side-sleeping tester.) The cooling cover prevents heat from building up and we like that it's washable for easy upkeep. Unlike most other shredded fill pillows we've tried, the ProAdjust retains its shape with minimal fluffing required. The caveats are minor (no proper trial period, no spare fill included) but it's otherwise an excellent value for a Tempur-Pedic pillow.

Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow review in brief
In October 2024, Tempur-Pedic launched two new pillow collections: the Tempur-Breeze Cooling Collection (for hot sleepers) and the Tempur-Adapt Collection (for pressure relief). Included in that lineup is the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow, which has an adjustable loft and is the least expensive option.
Our tester has tried several adjustable pillows, so she was eager to find out how the ProAdjust compares. Tempur-Pedic obliged her with a queen-size Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow. Read on for a quick summary of her experience after sleeping on it for two weeks...
Type: Adjustable (shredded Tempur Material and polyester fibers)
Best for: Most sleepers, neck and shoulder pain
Sizes: Queen (25x15.9"), king (32.3x15.9”)
Trial: N/A
Warranty: 5 years
Price: From $125 at Tempur-Pedic
The Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow is packed with a blend of shredded Tempur Material and polyester fibers, yielding deep contouring with ample support. This was ideal for our tester, who holds a lot of tension in her neck and shoulders after long hours working at a laptop. Unlike other shredded fill pillows she's tried, our tester seldom had to reshape the ProAdjust every morning (lazy people, rejoice!)
The ProAdjust Pillow has a 6.5" loft, which our tester found suitable as a side-sleeper with a broader frame. While it arrives overstuffed and you can remove the fill to make it flatter to suit your body type and sleep style, it doesn't include a spare bag of fill if you want to make it taller or to refresh it occasionally. You'll also need to figure out a way to store the excess.
When it comes to temperature regulation, the ProAdjust Pillow has the brand's SmartClimate cover, which is designed to be cool-to-the-touch and feels soothing (you can also remove it to launder it.) This, combined with the shredded fill, helped our tester avoid waking up with a sweaty nape — but for chronically hot sleepers, investing in one of the Tempur-Breeze cooling pillows might be a wise investment.
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow retails from $125 and has a generous 5-year warranty. However, purchases made directly from Tempur-Pedic are non-returnable, although you may be able to take advantage of a return policy through one of the brand's authorized resellers.

Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow review: Price & deals
- The most affordable pillow in the Tempur-Adapt lineup
- Rarely discounted, but it was 20% off during Black Friday 2024
- Comes with a 5-year limited warranty
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow is the most affordable in the Tempur-Adapt Pillow Collection. A queen-size retails for $125 and a king goes for $165. Since its October 2024 release, it's only been discounted once — the Tempur-Pedic Black Friday sale dropped the starting price of a ProAdjust Pillow to $100 after 20% off — and at the time of this review, it wasn't on sale.
Since Tempur-Pedic considers its pillows personal items, they're non-returnable and don't come with a trial. However, purchasing through an authorized third-party retailer such as Mattress Firm or Pottery Barn may allow you to circumvent this. No matter where you buy, the ProAdjust Pillow includes a 5-year limited warranty that covers repairs and replacements, as is standard with other Tempur-Pedic pillows.
So how does the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust compare to our pick for the best adjustable pillow? The Coop Home Goods Original Adjustable Pillow retails from $79 at Coop Home Goods and comes with a 100-night trial, a 5-year warranty, and free access to a Coop Sleep Concierge who will help you fashion the pillow to your ideal height.
Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow from $125 at Tempur-Pedic
The Temper-Adapt ProAdjust is designed for the Goldilocks-type sleepers who need a pillow that's 'just right.' Inside is a blend of shredded Tempur Material and polyester fibers that you can remove (and re-add) as needed. The cool-touch SmartClimate cover is removable and machine-washable for easy laundering. Discounts are rare, but you may be able to save money during the occasional Tempur-Pedic sale. A 5-year limited warranty is included, but there are no returns if you buy direct from Tempur-Pedic.
Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow review: Materials & design
- Fill is a blend of Tempur Material and polyester fibers
- Dual-sided cover has a cool, slick side and a soft netted side
- Cover is machine-washable and dryer-safe
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow has a shredded fill made of a 90/10 blend of Tempur Material (a type of memory foam that is unique to the brand and was originally developed by NASA) and polyester fibers. This fill is packed into a thin inner liner and wrapped in a dual-sided cover that influences how the pillow will feel against your head and neck.
The front side of the cover — adorned with Tempur-Pedic's signature blue-and-white design — is woven from a polyester and polyethylene blend, giving it a smooth surface with a soothing sensation upon contact. The back side of a pillow has a polyester netting, which results in a slightly softer, lumpier surface.
While the pillow itself isn't washable, you can pop the cover in the washing machine in cold water and either tumble dry on a low heat or leave it to air dry.
Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow review: Performance
- Arrives flat and has a 6.5" loft, but doesn't come with spare fill
- Doesn't lose shape as easily as other shredded foam pillows
- Very hot sleepers may need a more powerful cooling pillow
Our lead tester slept on a queen-size Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow for two weeks and evaluated it on ease of setup and maintenance, overall comfort and support, and temperature control. Here's her experience...
Setup
The Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow arrives flat in a box, wrapped in plastic. Since it's not vacuum-sealed, there's no need to wait for it to expand, so you can sleep on it right away if you want to. In our case, it also meant there was no obvious off-gassing smell to deal with.
Adjustable pillows tend to require a little extra time to set up but for our broad-shouldered lead tester, the 6.5" loft felt just right. It may be how the fill is constructed or distributed, but despite the taller loft and that the brand advertises the pillow as arriving overstuffed, the ProAdjust didn't seem overfilled compared to other adjustable pillows our tester has tried.
However, adjustable shredded fill pillows usually come with extra fill so you can increase the loft (if necessary) and refresh the pillow over time. The ProAdjust doesn't include additional fill, nor does it have a way to store the fill you take out of the pillow. While this is a minor inconvenience, you'll want to reserve a plastic bag or a box for storing the excess.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Comfort and support
During the two-week review period, our tester slept on a Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress with a Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt Cooling+ Mattress Topper, which create a medium-firm sleep surface. Primarily a side sleeper who often wakes up on her stomach, our tester remained on her side for much of the testing period. The tall loft of the pillow likely helped, as it was a good fit for the nook between her ear and shoulder.
One of the benefits of an adjustable pillow is versatility, as you can tailor the height to suit nearly any sleep style and body type. Shredded Tempur Material performs just like it does in the layers it's found in within Tempur-Pedic mattresses and toppers — it gradually molds to the contours of your body. Our tester holds a lot of tension in her neck and shoulders, and Tempur's signature pressure relief helped melt a lot of that away.
The pillow cover offers two distinct textures. The top side is smooth and flat, preventing the texture of the shredded fill from poking through. The flip side has a netted design with less of a barrier between the cover and the fill for a slightly softer feel. Our tester preferred the slick, flat surface because it provided a bit more support. This is also the side Tempur-Pedic recommends for most users, but it’s nice to know both sides of the pillow are usable.
Score: 5 out of 5
Temperature control
For the first week, our tester didn't wrap her Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow in a pillowcase in order to experience the full effects of the cooling cover. During the second week, she used a cotton pillowcase to see if it impacted the pillow's cooling properties.
The cover does provide a noticeable soothing sensation upon contact, but this effect fades after a few minutes — and unsurprisingly, that diminishes once there's a barrier. Meanwhile, the netted material on the 'bottom' had no obvious cooling effect. The slick surface of the top side also made it a bit challenging to keep a pillowcase in place, but that's an issue with cooling fabrics in general.
Tempur-Pedic uses this type of cover with most of its mattresses and bedding to counter any heat retention from their Tempur Material — and here, it's effective. Our tester maintained a comfortable temperature during her weeks with the ProAdjust Pillow, although we're curious to know how effective it is during the hotter months, since we tested it in November in the Mid-Atlantic US.
We think the ProAdjust Pillow will provide sufficient temperature regulation for most people, but sleepers who struggle with chronic or severe overheating may need a more powerful cooling pillow such as the Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Breeze Pillow or the Casper Hybrid Pillow with Snow Technology.

Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow review: Durability & care
Build & quality
For a starting retail price of $125, you'd expect the craftsmanship of the ProAdjust Pillow to be very good — and it is. We wouldn't call it luxurious, but it does maintain the high level of quality that Tempur-Pedic is known for.
Tempur Material is resilient, and our tester's pillow snapped back into place every morning. We do wish it came with extra fill to keep the pillow fresh over a longer period, but occasionally giving it a good fluff every now and then will do the trick.
The cover can be laundered in the washer and dryer, and provided you follow the care instructions, we think it should hold up well.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Care & maintenance
One of our tester’s main gripes with shredded fill pillows is how often they require fluffing because they lose shape. However, the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow rarely had that issue — a credit to the density and pliability of Tempur Material. Throughout the review period, we only needed to reshape the pillow occasionally.
At the end of the second week, we cleaned the removable cover according to the care instructions: machine wash in cold water and tumble dry on low. The material had no pulls and the cooling sensation remained.
Score: 5 out of 5

Should you buy the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow?
Buy the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow if...
✅ You want to control the feel of your pillow: If you value precision, you'll get it with the adjustable fill design of the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow. It arrives at its max height of 6.5" so you'll need to make adjustments if you're smaller-framed and/or sleep on your back or stomach.
✅ You don't like fluffing your pillow: Our tester forgot she was sleeping on an adjustable pillow because the ProAdjust rarely lost its shape after a night of sleep. That's the power of Tempur Material at work (though you should fluff it up a bit every now and then).
✅ You carry a lot of tension in your upper body: For our tester, the legendary pressure relief of Tempur Material was a boon for her sore neck and tight shoulders. This is a nice pillow to sink into after a long day.
Don't buy the Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow if...
❌ You need extra fill: The ProAdjust Pillow doesn’t come with spare fill so you can’t increase its loft or refresh it over time. If this is important to you, consider the adjustable pillows from Coop Sleep or Avocado, which include extra fill.
❌ You're a very hot sleeper: While the ProAdjust Pillow will maintain a comfortable temperature for most people, we recommend a specialist cooling pillow for sleepers with severe night sweats or hot flashes.
❌ Your budget is limited: With a starting price of $125, the ProAdjust Pillow sits right in the mid-range bracket, but for an adjustable pillow for less than $100, check out the Coop Sleep Goods Original Pillow.
The bottom line
The Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt ProAdjust Pillow combines the signature pressure relief of Tempur Material with the cooling prowess of its SmartClimate cover and the customizability of an adjustable loft pillow. It's not perfect — we wish it included extra fill and a proper trial period — but it otherwise delivers excellent value as one of Tempur-Pedic’s most affordable pillows.
