Plush, cushioned mattresses can often hold onto heat, making it harder to sleep comfortably. The main attraction of the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress is its temperature-regulating properties, including a Cool-Touch knitted cover. We tested the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 to see if it can deliver cooler and cosier sleep, and to see how it compares to this year's best mattresses. Below you'll find our full review, but if you're in a rush to shop the Black Friday mattress deals, here are the headlines.
We tested the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress in the summer months and found it kept us feeling 'just right' throughout the night. Even on hotter nights we didn’t overheat, with the Cool-Touch cover maintaining its fresh feel.
It also has Staycool Gel and unique TemperatureSmart technology to keep things breathable and please hot sleepers. This combination is designed to conduct excess heat away from the body, making for a restful and uninterrupted night’s sleep. We were pleased with the performance and would recommend this mattress for hot sleepers.
We were also impressed at how plush and supportive the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 mattress is, with our testing panel finding it on the softer side of medium-firm. We recommend it to anyone who wants a medium-firm mattress with luxurious cushioning, finding it provided good support all the way to the edges.
While we found it great for all sleeping positions, we were most comfortable on our back or side. The top is quite cushioned so you sink in further when on your front. However, even when sinking into the bed, the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 maintained its even temperature.

Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress: materials & design
- A hybrid mattress with a double spring layer
- A pillow top adds plush cushioning
- Features Staycool Gel and a Cool-Touch knitted cover
Sitting within the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress there are eight layers, including foams, mixed fibres, and pocket springs. Each layer has been carefully crafted to prioritize temperature regulation alongside comfort, for a cooler overnight feel.
At the top of the mattress is the Cool-Touch knitted cover, with targeted graphite strips beneath to enhance cooling. Multiple foam and fibre layers follow, including a soft polyester comfort layer, a high density polyester support layer, and a layer of Staycool gel infused material. The upper layers are wrapped in a pillow top, for plush cushioning as soon as you hit the mattress.
After the foam and fibre you'll find a double layer of springs. The upper coil layer uses Softech pocketed springs, which contour to the body to provide targeted support. Beneath this is the traditional spring layer, each coil in a separate fabric pocket for enhanced motion isolation.
We think the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress is worth considering due to its range of mindfully crafted temperature regulating materials. Below, we'll explore how the mattress performed in our testes, to determine if each layer can live up its lofty promise.
Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress: firmness & comfort
- Medium-firm mattress, we rate 6 out of 10 (10 being the firmest)
- Dual spring layers offer good pressure relieving support
- Best for side and back sleepers
Name: Emily Peck
Sleeping position: side and back

Testing period: 6 weeks
Bedding used during review: Cotton duvet cover and sheets
Other mattresses tested: Zoma Mattress, Relyon, Emma NextGen Cooling
The Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress is a 32.5cm deep hybrid mattress with pocket springs and multiple layers of soft white fibres. Sleepeezee rates the mattress as medium, which we largely agree with — our testing panel agreed on a six out of 10 firmness level (with one indicating soft and 10 very firm).
With its pillow-top finish and Cool-Touch knitted cover, the mattress feels smooth and tactile with cloud-like cosiness. It's deeper than many mattresses, which likely contributes to this cozy feel (as well as its appeal to side sleepers).
This is a medium-firm mattress, which we found gave good support from edge to edge. We were able to move freely from our side and back to our front without feeling like we were getting ‘stuck’, and the mattress bounced back into shape after you moved.
But the plush pillow top does give the mattress a cushioned feel. Our testers noted that the mattress 'hugged' them in all the right places such as the hips and shoulders. We like it best for side and back sleepers, with out lighter and average weight testers feeling balanced when lying on their front, side and back.
All our testers had positive things to say about the mattress, aside from one who noted that the pillow top made the mattress feel too squishy for their liking. Stomach sleepers are likely to need a firmer feel with less sink, to ensure ample support at the hips.
Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress: performance
- Knitted cover stays cool to touch
- Good pressure relief with pillow top comfort
- Edge support is very good
To find out how comfortable and supportive the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress, our lead tester slept on a double with their partner over the course of six weeks in late summer. We placed the mattress on a wooden slatted bed frame in a room where the temperature fluctuated between 66 and 84 degrees F — these balmier nights were ideal for testing the cooling prowess. We tested the mattress in all areas of performance, rating it on pressure relief, motion isolation, edge support, cooling and ease of set up. We also asked testers of varying heights and weights to try the mattress and give us their opinion.
Set-up
This mattress comes fully formed and wrapped in plastic that can be recycled. On arrival, the delivery team carried it up the stairs and placed it on the wooden slatted bed frame (in-room delivery costs vary from retailer to retailer). The hardest part was dressing the bed; you might need to upgrade your sheets to cover the deep design.
We tested a double size and if you're setting it up yourself, the weight means it’s definitely a two-person job, even with stitched handles making it easier to carry. With a 32.5cm depth, it’s rather bulky — a streamlined design might look better in a small room. As the mattress comes fully formed it’s ready to sleep on straight away, but it doesn’t come with a removable cover for washing so a good mattress protector is a must.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Off-gassing
As this mattress is delivered flat, there is hardly any off-gassing to contend with. Off-gassing is the factory smell you can sometimes get with a new mattress, and while it isn't dangerous, it can be off-putting. It’s worth noting that the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 has air vents to allow air to flow in and out, keeping it fresh and cool. Once we’d taken the mattress out of its plastic packaging we left it a few hours to breathe, before dressing it and sleeping on it that night. By this point, the off-gassing wasn't a problem at all.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Pressure relief
From our testing experience, we've found pillow top mattresses are inclined to be on the softer side of medium, but this wasn't necessarily the case with the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800. We were pleased with the medium to medium-firm firm, and how balanced the tension felt across the entirety of the mattress.
To get a measurement on pressure relief, we placed an 8kg weight in the middle of the mattress, using a measuring tape to see how much the weight sank. We measured it at 1.5 inches — in comparison, softer mattresses can sink upwards of 2.5 inches. We think the pressure relief is very good on the Sleepeezee design.
Score: 4 out of 5
Motion transfer
If you or your partner is a particularly restless sleeper it’s important to have a mattress with good motion isolation. This will ensure that as one person moves — either to change position of get out of bed — the other won't be disturbed.
The Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress is designed with individual sleeping zones on each side and overall, we thought the motion transfer technology was good. It's not quite the best we've ever tested, we think the plush pillow top might cause some motion to travel, but it should be good enough for most couples.
To test the motion isolation technology of this mattress further, we used a 3kg weight and a wine glass. We dropped the weight four, 10 and 25 inches away from the empty wine glass to see if the glass would topple. At 25 and 10 inches away the wine glass hardly moved. When we repeated the drop test with the 3kg weight at four inches away, however, the wine glass toppled over.
Score: 4 out of 5
Temperature regulation
Some mattresses are better at dispersing heat than others, and plush mattresses can often trap warmth. One of the main plus points of the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress is just how mindfully crafted its cooling properties are.
The StayCool Gel inside the mattress helps to manage moisture levels, for superior cooling even on hot nights. The mattress also has ‘TemperatureSmart technology’, whereby graphite strips run beneath the surface to enhance the cooling effect.
The Cool-Touch knitted cover is smooth to touch and our testing panel agreed it felt cool under the hand. All these features are designed to encourage heat to draw away from the body at night and we found they worked to keep our testers at a comfortable temperature even during our warm summer testing period.
Score: 4.5 out of 5
Edge support
Without good edge support, getting in and out of mattress can be a chore. Good edge support can also prevent the mattress from collapsing prematurely and allows you to sit on the edge of the bed without sliding off — so you can pause and reflect before starting the day.
Our testing panel has tried a host of beds that impressed with relief and support, but been let down by flimsy edges. Luckily, the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress does well to hold its shape around the perimeters. The pillow top means the sides aren’t as solid as some — the top sinks before you meet the sturdy support beneath — but the edge support is well realised. We were able to sit on the side of the mattress without it collapsing.
To gain some objective measurement of edge support, we used a heavy weight to test the sinkage at the sides. On the edge of the mattress we measured the sinkage at one inch, compared to 1.5 inches in the middle, which shows just how strong the sides of the mattress actually are.
Score: 4 out of 5
Durability
With its Cool-Touch surface, smooth pillow top knitted cover and thick 32.5cm design, the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress looks and feels premium. While we can’t say how well this mattress will age in a year, we do think that it has been stylishly designed to stand the test of time.
While the mattress should be rotated regularly to maintain its form, it won’t need flipping over, which instantly makes maintenance easy. Unfortunately, there’s no way to take off the cover for washing, but a good mattress protector should keep it looking box fresh.
Score: 4.5 out of 5

Should you buy the Sleepeezee Cool Rest 1800 Mattress?
Our testing panel greatly enjoyed sleeping on the 32.5cm-thick medium-firm Sleepeezee Cool Rest mattress and agree that it’s a good investment for a comfortable and cool night’s sleep.
The pillow top cover offers an extra layer of comfort without getting too hot, giving the mattress a plush hotel-spa style feel. The StayCool Gel memory foam layer and graphite strips inside keep the mattress breathable and ensure you don’t get too hot while you sleep – even in the summer.
The mattress has some excellent features, including its layer of unique ‘Softtouch’ springs and traditional pocketed springs, which team together to offer great support across the body. We particularly recommend it for side and back sleepers, but stomach sleepers might need something firmer. Both the REM-Fit Ortho 500 Hybrid Mattress and the Panda Hybrid Bamboo Mattress Pro are excellent hybrid designs with flatter and firmer sleeping surfaces.
