Saatva RX vs Winkbed Plus: Which luxury mattress offers the best support?

When looking for mattresses that have enhanced support and comfort then the Saatva RX and Winkbed Plus are two of the best. These two luxury mattresses are designed not only to provide substantial support through their hybrid structures, but also an indulgent feel. But they do differ significantly. So which is right for you?

The Saatva RX is one of the best mattresses for all types of sleeper. It has been designed to specifically help with chronic back and joint pain thanks to features like the Lumbar Zone and the memory foam lumbar crown. The WinkBed Plus also specialises in support, and it's a popular bed in a box for heavier sleepers, thanks to its extra lumbar support and responsive feel from the latex used.

Whichever you find to be most suited to you will likely be discounted in monthly mattress sales, with WinkBed always offering $300 off and Saatva offering frequent deals. So let’s put these two luxury mattresses head to head to find out which you should buy…

Saatva RX vs Winkbed Plus: Price & Trial

  • The Saava RX is a luxury hybrid with an MSRP of $3,295 for a queen
  • The WinkBed Plus is also a hybrid with an MSRP of $1,999 for a queen
  • Both beds have a lifetime warranty and generous sleep trial

Whilst both mattresses sit at a premium price point, the Saatva RX is significantly more expensive than the WinkBed even when it’s at full MSRP. Saatva doesn’t always run a sale, but you can usually get between 12-15% off the Saatva RX throughout the year.

So, if you’re not desperate for a new bed it is worth waiting for the next Saatva mattress sale. But right now you can save up to $400 off this mattress, with the discount changing per size. Currently, a queen is $350 off, bringing the price down to $3,049 (was $3,399).

The WinkBed Plus is one of the best mattress in a box beds and it has an evergreen sale of $300 off so you’ll never have to worry about paying full MSRP. This means you can get a queen for just $1,699 (was $1,999).

Both mattresses come with a lifetime warranty, meaning you'll be covered for faults and defects for life. The Saatva RX has a longer sleep trial at 365-nights and free white glove delivery, whilst the WinkBed Plus has a 120-night sleep trial and free regular shipping. These two beds have a huge price difference, with the Saatva RX well within the upper premium price ranges. So, what makes it more expensive? Let's take a closer look at the design of both.

Saatva RX vs Winkbed Plus: Design & Materials

  • Both mattresses are innerspring hybrids
  • The Saatva RX has a 15” profile
  • The WinkBed Plus has a 13.5” profile

Both of these mattresses are innerspring hybrids but once we dive under the covers they are quite different. The Saatva RX is one of the best hybrid mattresses and has 15” profile and features seven layers, starting with a breathable, organic cotton cover which has Saatva’s proprietary Lumbar Zone quilting to help promote a healthy spinal alignment.

Next is a 0.5” layer of gel memory foam, followed by a 1” micro-coil comfort layer which has been encased in two 0.75” high-density foam layers. There is then a Therapeutic Support Core layer which is comprised of 2” RX modules on top of the individually wrapped 8” coils that lie below.

This mattress also has quantum edge coils around the perimeter of 8” coils for added edge support before being stabilized by a non-woven base layer, making it ideal for couples.

The WinkBed Plus is 13.5” high and starts off with a moisture-wicking Tencel cover. It’s worth noting that the Plus model of this bed ditches the plush Euro top which comes with the standard version and instead has a layer of dense, anti-sag foam for initial support.

There is then a 2.5” layer of pure latex that has seven ergonomic zones for targeted pressure relief. Next is a 2.5” layer of temperature-regulating foam and a five-zoned layer of individually wrapped supportive coils. WinkBed mattresses have the brand's 3-Step Back Relief System and LumbarLayer, which provide extra lumbar support and help align the spine.

This mattress uses zoned latex which also helps to promote proper spinal alignment but still has enough bounce to make moving around easy. This is one of the best mattresses for stomach sleepers as it also keeps the hips elevated and doesn’t sink in the midsection.

Saatva RX vs Winkbed Plus: Support & Comfort

  • The Saatva RX is ideal for those with chronic back and joint pain
  • The WinkBed Plus supports heavier sleepers over 250lbs
  • Both have outstanding edge support

The Saatva RX and WinkBed Plus both come in just one firmness option. The Saatva RX has a medium feel and is one of the best mattresses for back pain. In fact it has been designed for those experiencing chronic back and joint conditions including arthritis, scoliosis, sciatica and herniated discs.

During our Saatva RX mattress review our tester found that this mattress was more firm than expected, sitting at around 7.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. However, this still wasn't too firm for side sleepers.

In fact, the Saatva RX is a good choice for all sleeping styles, with side sleepers finding it offers plenty of support in the shoulders, hips and knees. Back and stomach sleepers will find it keeps the spine and hips perfectly aligned without too much sink-in whilst still feeling a soft enough to be comfortable, thanks to the Lumbar Zone.

The WinkBed Plus is a firm bed sitting at around 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale offering a high level of support, especially for heavier weight sleepers who don't want to sink too far into the bed.

All sleeping styles are catered for with this bed but back sleepers will find it especially comfortable thanks to the LumbarLayer. While we've reviewed the luxury firm WinkBed, we're yet to test the Plus, and firmness is subjective, but we'd guess that lighter weight side sleepers may find it slightly too firm, with not enough give around the shoulders, hips and knees.

Despite both mattresses having ample bounce, thanks to the responsive hybrid construction, they both do a great job at isolating motion. If you share a bed with someone who fidgets a lot at night, then both of these beds will offer some relief. Although, if you’re sleeping with a very restless sleeper then one of the best memory foam mattresses may be a better choice, for minimal motion transfer.

These beds also both share exceptional edge support. The Saatva RX has quantum-edge coils along the perimeter of the bed so laying close to the edge or sitting on the corners will be super sturdy. Whilst the WinkBed Plus will allow you to use the full width of the bed as well as sitting on it comfortably without the fear of rolling off.

Saatva RX vs Winkbed Plus: Temperature control

  • Both mattresses use coil springs for extra airflow
  • The Saatva RX uses cooling foam and phase change materials
  • The WinkBed Plus has a triple layer heat disperse technology

Whilst neither of these beds are included in this year's best cooling mattress guide, they are good at keeping hot sleepers comfortable at night. The Saatva RX has a breathable organic cover alongside a cooling gel-infused lumbar crown and foam modules that are infused with graphite and phase change materials. Also the dual coil layers mean that air flows around the mattress, keeping it cool.

The WinkBed Plus also does a good job of keeping things temperature neutral. This mattress includes a Tencel cover which is infused with eucalyptus, gel-infused layers and the brand’s Triple Layer Heat Disperse technology which helps to pull heat and moisture away from the body and maximize airflow. Plus, there’s also a layer of coils which can help increase airflow.
