Saatva queen vs king mattress: Dimensions
- A queen Saatva mattress measures 60” wide by 80” long
- A king Saatva mattress measures 76” wide by 80” long
- Queen size mattresses are easier to maneuver
Both queen and king size mattresses offer plenty of space for sleepers to spread out, but the dimensions are, of course, slightly different. They are the same over the entire range of top-rated Saatva mattresses.
A queen and a king size Saatva are both 80” long, but a king Saatva is wider at 76”. A couple can sleep perfectly comfortably on a queen but if one of you is restless or sleeps hot, for example, you might find you want the extra space of a king. Taller or heavier builds may also appreciate a king size Saatva as it gives more space to stretch out.
Like all the best queen size mattresses, a Saatva queen is going to be far easier to maneuver around than a king size and, by extension, will be easier to fit in a wider variety of bedrooms. If you’re someone who moves house a lot, you might appreciate the slightly smaller size of a queen Saatva.
In contrast, a king size mattress give sleepers that little bit of extra space to spread out further, which can be particularly important if you or your partner are a restless sleeper. Opting for a king is also a good option for hot sleepers, as the extra space will help keep air circulating and prevent it from becoming trapped in the mattress.
Of course, one of the huge advantages of Saatva mattresses is that you get a whole year to trial them. A decent mattress trial gives you plenty of time to decide whether the size you’ve chosen is the right one for you and you can exchange if you feel you need more or less space. It is worth noting, however, that Saatva charge a $99 return fee.
Saatva queen vs king mattress: Key differences
- A king size Saatva mattress is 16” wider
- A queen size Saatva mattress will take up less floor space
- A king size mattress will cost more than a queen
The most obvious difference between a queen and king Saatva mattress is the size difference. Although both sizes come in at 80” long, a king Saatva is 16” wider than a queen at 76” to 60”. So, a queen is narrower, which may suit average weight and height sleepers, but a king Saatva might be a better choice for those needing the extra room.
Queen Saatva mattresses are a popular choice for guest rooms, whereas a king Saatva mattress will give you considerably more room to spread out on. But, of course, you will need the space for a king size bed – they won’t work in a smaller bedroom.
The second key difference is price. For example, there’s a $400 difference between a queen and king size Saatva Classic (the brand’s most popular bed, and you can ready why in our Saatva Classic mattress review). This price gap increases as mattresses get more expensive. The brand’s most expensive mattress, the Saatva Solaire, has a $900 price gap between the two sizes.
Saatva queen mattress: Pros & cons
- Queen Saatva mattresses are cheaper than kings
- A queen is smaller and takes up less floor space
- There’s less space for a couple to stretch out in a queen Saatva
If you have a smaller budget, a queen Saatva mattress is the obvious choice. These are among the best luxury mattresses, but you will make a fairly significant saving by downsizing. A queen mattress is smaller, so it stands to reason that it will be cheaper.
That slightly smaller size also means that a queen Saatva will be easier to fit into smaller spaces, which can make them more suitable for guest rooms or those housing your teenagers. They’re also a great choice if you need to sometimes co-sleep with a younger child or for singletons who want to be able to share their bed with a pet or two. A queen Saatva will also be easier to move around and maneuver, which could be a consideration if you’re living on your own. Finally, that smaller size will also make a queen Saatva easier to rotate your mattress.
The cons of queen size Saatva mattresses are that you’ll have less space to spread out in bed if you’re a couple, which could be an issue for those of a larger build or taller height. That closer proximity could also be an issue if one sleeper is restless at night, as the other person in bed is likely to be disturbed more easily. Likewise, a smaller mattress can make it harder to stay cool at night as air will struggle to circulate. If you are a hot sleeper, a larger size bed could be the best option or, if that’s not a possibility, make sure you choose a hybrid Saatva.
Saatva king mattress: Pros & cons
- King Saatva mattresses are ideal for larger sleepers to spread out on
- A king is larger and can comfortably fit two adults along with kids and pets
- King Saatva mattresses are more expensive than queens
King Saatva mattresses offer more width than a queen, which gives larger and / or taller sleepers more room to spread out in bed. They’re also a great choice for families or those with multiple pets – we all know that kids and animals are bound to join us in the bedroom from time to time. The extra space means it will still be possible to get a good night’s sleep with extra guests on board.
A king mattress also reduces the risk of motion transfer and helps to keep air flowing round the mattress, making them a better choice for hot sleepers. The Saatva Classic is again our top pick in our round up of the best king size mattresses, and we think it’s the best choice for co-sleepers.
Of course, the flip side to that extra room is that you have a much larger mattress that’s harder to move around and will weigh more. You’ll need a larger bedroom to fit it in comfortably and at least two people to rotate it or move it about. And a king Saatva mattress will be more expensive than a queen, with a price difference as high as $900 for Saatva’s most expensive model, the Solaire.
Saatva queen vs king mattress: Which should you buy?
Buy a queen size Saatva mattress if...
✅ You have a smaller space: A queen Saatva mattress will take up less small space, making it an ideal choice for guest rooms or smaller houses.
✅ You’re on a tighter budget: This is a bit of an oxymoron, as Saatva mattresses always come with a premium price tag, but a queen size will be cheaper than a king.
✅ You’re a single person: If you’re a single person who still wants a bed they can spread out in, a queen is a better choice as it will be easier to move about and rotate on your own.
Buy a king size Saatva mattress if...
✅ You sleep hot: The extra space in a king size bed makes it easier for partners to sleep away from each other, making it easier for air to circulate in the mattress and keep sleepers cool.
✅ You share your bed with a restless partner: As with temperature, the extra space will help to dull any movement from a restless partner, reducing motion transfer and the chance of you being disturbed at night.
✅ You need a bigger bed for the family: If you’re frequently joined in bed by kids and / or pets, the larger size of a king Saatva will leave plenty of room for everyone to get in and still allow you room to snooze.
