In this Nectar Premier Copper vs Purple Original mattress comparison, we're exploring which cooling hybrid provides the best temperature regulation. Both successfully keep night sweats at bay thanks to their open construction and both beds are discounted in early Black Friday deals — but which should you buy?

If you are shopping for a new cooling hybrid mattress, our guide to the best mattress of the year offers options for all sleep styles, body types and budgets. The Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid mattress and the Purple Original Hybrid mattress are two of the top performing cooling mattresses of the year — and they're both discounted now  in early Black Friday mattress sales

On the surface these mattresses appear pretty similar. They are both available as hybrids, both are leading cooling mattresses from their respective brands, and both are delivered in a box. In this Nectar vs Purple comparison, we'll explore how the two hybrid mattresses compare in terms of comfort, support, design and price to help you decide which one is better suited for your sleep.

Nectar Premier Copper vs Purple Mattress: Price & Trial

  • There's $200 off the Purple and $250 off the Nectar right now
  • Nectar has a one-year trial and forever warranty
  • Purple has a 100-night trial and 10-year warranty

It's important to note that Nectar has discontinued the Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress, but it is still available to buy at a discounted rate from third-party retailers, including Amazon. You can currently save 20% on the Nectar Premier Copper Mattress at Amazon, with a queen priced at $1,049 (was $1,249). Nectar's usual benefits — a one-year sleep trial and forever warranty — are still included, but be aware that navigating Amazon mattress returns can be a tricky process.

Purple is currently knocking $200 off all sizes of its original mattress, bringing a queen size to $1,299 (was $1,499). Plus you can take an extra $100 off a smart bed base with adjustable head elevation worth $599 when you buy one alongside the Purple Mattress. Purple offer a standard 100-night sleep trial and 10-year warranty which should see you through the mattress expected lifespan (we always recommend changing your mattress after 10 years). Be sure to keep up with our Purple Mattress deals hub if you want to track the best prices this sale season.

This mattress has been discontinued by Nectar, but you can still find it for low prices on third party retailer websites  — we've shopped around and believe Amazon is your best bet. Currently, there is 20% off at Amazon, reducing a queen size to $1,049 (was $1,249), and you'll still benefit from a full year's trial and a lifetime warranty, which add great value to this mattress.

Purple Mattress:was from $999now from $799 at Purple

Purple don't run evergreen sales like other mattress brands and they don't always offer the best deals on major sale days. Our advice is when you see a discount at Purple, grab it. The current $200 off is a good deal from Purple, bringing a queen original hybrid mattress down to $1,299 (was $1,499). Plus you'll get free delivery and a 100-night sleep trial included.

Nectar Premier Copper vs Purple Mattress: Design & Materials

  • Both are hybrid mattresses, but also available in all-foam
  • The Nectar Premier Copper is 14" tall and has seven layers
  • The Purple is 9.25" tall and has five layers

Nectar is the brand behind some of the best hybrid mattresses on the market, and they bring this expertise to the Premier Copper Hybrid. Although classified as a hybrid mattress, the seven-layer Purple Mattress is not a hybrid in the usual sense. Instead of typical coils, Purple combines foam with its patented GelFlex grid, a hyper-elastic polymer grid, in its hybrid mattresses. This original feature gives Purple mattresses an unusual feel, but it is designed to adapt to different body types and sleep positions for extra support.

Surrounding the grid is edge support foam followed by comfort foam that contours the body. The whole mattress is supported by a sturdy base layer foam for stability and durability.

On the other hand, the Nectar Premier Copper mattress is made up of five layers, including a cover made of polyethylene and copper fibers. This is cool to touch and effectively wicks away heat from the body. Beneath the cover is a layer of high-density gel foam infused with phase change materials which regulate your body temperature and contour to your body shape.

Lower down you'll find the individually encased innerspring coils and more high-density support foam that provides the mattress with durability as well as additional support.

Nectar Premier Copper vs Purple Mattress: Comfort & Support

  • Both are medium firm mattresses, rated 6-7 out of 10
  • The Nectar is great for side sleepers
  • The Purple may be too thin for heavier and front sleepers

As hybrid mattresses, the Nectar and Purple both offer a good combination of support and comfort, particularly accommodating side sleepers. In our Nectar Premier Copper mattress review, we rated it a 6 out of 10 in terms of firmness, meaning it does an excellent job of providing side sleepers with pressure relief and cradling comfort. But stomach sleepers and heavier back sleepers are likely to find this mattress too soft and would benefit from the extra sturdiness and support offered by a decent firm mattress.

With a stability base layer, edge support innerspring coil layer and dynamic transition foam, the Nectar Premier Copper is a great shout for couples seeking strong motion isolation.

The brand's own rating places the Purple Mattress at 6-7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, giving it a medium-firm comfort level, which our testers agreed with during our Purple Original mattress review, placing it as slightly firmer at a 7 out of 10.

This gives a reliable benchmark for how the hybrid sister model would feel. Our reviewers say the Purple Original feels squishy when pressed but firm when you're laying on it and they especially recommend it for side and back sleepers once you get used to the unique feel.

The top GelFlex layer is highly responsive. It contours to the body and cushions joints extremely well, while offering proper spinal alignment. As one of our best mattresses for side sleepers, the Purple Mattress is applauded for it's ability to alleviate shoulder and hip pain. Heavier sleepers should note that at 9.25" tall, the Purple Mattress might not be thick enough to adequately support their body.

Nectar Premier Copper vs Purple Mattress: Temperature regulation

  • Both hybrids have advanced cooling functionality
  • Nectar uses copper and phase change materials to wick away heat
  • Purple's GelFlex grid layer promotes airflow and breathability

Both the Nectar Premier Copper Hybrid Mattress and the Purple Mattress have earned a spot in our best cooling mattress guide of the year, making them great choices for year round hot sleepers

Thanks to Purple's GelFlex layer's open structure, the mattress doesn't trap heat as a lot of all-foam mattress do. The brand promise this feature increases airflow to help you sleep up to two times cooler than on other mattresses. The GelFlex layer works with an efficient cooling cover to help the Purple Mattress remains cool and comfortable through the night.

Moreover, chemical elements like copper are increasingly being used in mattresses for enhanced temperature regulation. The Nectar Premier Copper mattress is a prime example of this. With a polyethylene and copper blend cover, the mattress surface is cool to touch and excels at wicking away body heat to keep sleepers cool.

The mattress' cooling properties don't end at the cover. Phase change materials infused in the gel memory foam absorb and release heat to regulate your temperature throughout the night, keeping hot flushes at bay.
