Nectar Luxe Hybrid vs Puffy Royal: Design & materials
- Both mattresses have a 14" profile and are constructed of a combination of foam and springs
- The Puffy Royal has 8 internal layers
- The Nectar Luxe has 4 internal layers
Both of these mattresses are a hybrid constriction meaning they bring together layers of foam with innerspring coils. The Nectar Luxe is made up over eight layers, starting with a three inch thick memory foam for contoured relief, this is wrapped in a cool-to-the-touch breathable cover.
There is then a two-inch responsive support layer that can help promote proper spinal alignment, followed by 8-inches of individually wrapped innerspring coils for enhanced support and superior motion control. And then a 1-inch foundational form that is encased in a durable bottom cover that’s heavy-duty and shift-resistant.
The Puffy Royal, despite having the same profile has more internal layers than the Nectar Luxe. It starts off with a cool touch quilted cover before a 0.25” layer of premium blended wool which helps to wick away moisture and then a climate fibre layer for advanced air circulation.
The cooling technology continues in the next layer which is 1” of foam infused with cooling gel. The next layer is 2” of premium contouring foam which responds to changes in position and helps to relieve pressure. There’s then a cloud comfort pressure relief foam, cloud sculpting technology foam before the 6” layer of foam encased pocketed coils. Finally, a 1” high-density full body support foam is encased in a grip base cover.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid vs Puffy Royal: Comfort & Support
- Both mattresses have one firmness rating
- The Puffy Royal is a medium-soft firmness
- The Nectar Luxe is medium-firm
The Puffy Royal is a medium-soft mattress and sits between 6-8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. In our Puffy Royal mattress review our tester agreed that it was around about a 7 out of 10.
This makes it a good fit for all sleeping positions but this is one of the best mattresses for back pain and back sleepers who experience some aches and pains throughout the night will find it especially comfortable thanks to the level of pressure relief and support it provides. Side sleepers will also enjoy the cushioning that comes with the Cloud Sculpting memory foam and it offers the right amount of sink-in comfort so you can feel cushioned but still move around easily.
The Nectar Luxe is a medium-firm mattress and one of the softest beds in the Nectar line up, but it will feel a lot firmer than the Puffy Royal. Despite this, it's a good all-rounder, ideal for all sleeping positions. Although for those who only sleep on their stomach, a firmer option may be more appropriate.
This mattress is designed to offer great pressure relief around the shoulders and hips when side sleeping, and plenty of lumbar support when on your back. Combination sleepers will also appreciate how responsive the surface is which makes switching positions easy.
Both of these mattresses do well when it comes to motion isolation, although the Puffy Royal will likely do a better job of absorbing motion thanks to it's extra layers of foam.
Nectar Luxe Hybrid vs Puffy Royal: Temperature Control
- The Puffy Royal has layers of cooling foams
- The Nectar features a cool-to-the-touch cover
- Both are hybrids which are naturally cooler
Hybrids don’t get as hot as the best memory foam mattresses since they have a layer of innerspring coils that allow for more airflow and don’t trap the heat between layers. Which is right for both the Puffy Royal and the Nectar Luxe. However, when it comes to cooling properties, the Puffy Royal is far more superior than the Nectar Luxe.
The Puffy Royal has multiple layers of cooling technology. This starts with the cool touch quilted cover, then there’s a blend wool filling layer, climate fiber layer, infused cooling foam plus the coils which all work together to keep hot sleepers feeling cool.
The Nectar Luxe also doesn’t do a bad job of keeping cool. It has a cool-to-the-touch cover so you will feel instantly chilled when you get into bed and because the layers are so responsive, it doesn’t stay hot when you've moved positions. Although, neither bed is a specialist cooling bed so if you’re a very hot sleeper it’s best to opt for one of the best cooling mattresses instead.
