DreamCloud vs Linenspa 8” Memory Foam Hybrid: Which budget mattress is right for you?

If you’re looking for a new bed on a budget then you don’t have to compromise on quality. The DreamCloud Hybrid and the Linenspa 8” Memory Foam Hybrid are two popular options and we've tested and reviewed both of them to compare their performance.

The search for this year's best mattress when you're on a budget has to include these two mattresses which bring together a combination of memory foam with innersprings. Whilst the DreamCloud comes with a higher price tag and luxury features, the Linenspa is an ultra-budget-friendly alternative that still remains comfortable.

Both of these mattresses are regularly on sale, but the DreamCloud has an evergreen 50% off mattress sale which brings it down to the budget price point. So we're putting these two mattresses head to head to compare how they differ in terms of price, design, comfort and support to help you decide which budget bed is best for you.

Dreamcloud vs Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid mattress: Price & Trial

  • The DreamCloud has a permanent 50% off sale
  • The Linenspa is often cheaper on Amazon
  • Both beds are considered budget friendly

When it comes to pricing both of these beds are in the budget category. Although the Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid is significantly cheaper than the DreamCloud hybrid, and it features in this year's best cheap mattress guide, it doesn’t have the same luxury features which explains the price difference.

The DreamCloud hybrid has an evergreen sale of 50% off so you’ll never pay the full MSRP of this bed. The starting MSRP for a twin is $1,130 but with the sale, the starting price is just $419. The sale also means you can get a queen for $665, with DreamCloud calculating the total value of a queen at $2,196.

The Linenspa is a super cheap bed even when at full MSRP with prices starting at just $129 for a twin. There are regular offers on this bed but they don’t always extend to all sizes.

While you can buy these beds direct from Linenspa, the price is lower when you buy from Amazon but that does mean if you see a discount, it’s best to buy it as soon as possible, as you can’t guarantee it will hang around for long. Right now, a queen has 29% off at Amazon bringing the price down $170.90 (from $239).

When it comes to perks, DreamCloud comes with industry-leading benefits like a 365-night sleep trial, a lifetime warranty and free shipping, which definitely makes it a more attractice option than the Linenspa. However, when you buy the Linenspa through Amazon you can still get a 100-day return period, a 10-year warranty and free shipping.

You don’t need to worry about the MSRP when it comes to the DreamCloud because a permanent 50% off means it’s never sold at full price. Currently, you can get a queen size mattress down to $665 (was $1,613) which is an amazing price for such a high-end bed. Extras include a 365-night sleep trial, lifetime warranty and free shipping. Check our DreamCloud mattress sales page that's regularly updated for the latest deals.

However, it is cheaper to buy it via Amazon which means there are regular sales but not always across every size of this bed. Right now, the queen mattress has 29% off bringing the cost down to $170.90 from $239. You also get a 100-day return period, free shipping and a 10-year warranty.

Dreamcloud vs Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid: Materials & Design

  • Both beds have a hybrid design
  • The DreamCloud is 12” tall
  • The Linenspa memory foam hybrid is just 8”

Both of these beds have a hybrid design. The DreamCloud has a more luxury construction compared to the Linenspa which is more basic, which you'd expect at such a low price.

The DreamCloud is 12” over six layers. It starts with a quilted cashmere cover, which has been designed to wick away moisture and has a soft-to-the-touch feel. Next is a 2” therapeutic gel memory foam layer followed by a 1” dynamic transition layer. There is then an 8” layer of individually wrapped coils before a 0.5” layer of foundational foam. This is all wrapped up in a heavy-duty bottom cover.

The Linenspa is just 8” thick and has a 3-layer construction. It starts with a soft-to the touch polyester bend cover before a quilted memory foam layer followed by a layer of poly foam before an open coil system which is similar to a traditional innerspring mattress.

While it's generally recommended a mattress is at least 10" thick, the Linenspa still does a good job of support and spine alignment. However, it does mean the pressure relief is lacking. The 12" DreamCloud is more suitable to side sleepers and heavier sleepers because of its added pressure relief layers.

Dreamcloud vs Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid: Comfort & Support

  • Both mattresses have a medium-firm feel
  • The DreamCloud is more suitable for side sleepers
  • Both are suitable for back and stomach sleepers

Both of these beds are a good fit for back and stomach sleepers, although the DreamCloud will also suit some side sleepers. The DreamCloud officially rates itself as a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale but in our DreamCloud mattress review our testers found that it felt more like an 8 out of 10, reporting that it felt a lot firmer than they had predicted. The DreamCloud adapts to the natural curves of the body without too much sink. It also does a good job of easing pressure points and keeping the spine in alignment.

The Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid mattress is a medium-firm bed which also sits at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale which our testers during our Linenspa 8” Memory Foam Hybrid mattress review found to be accurate.

Because this is a thinner bed, it doesn’t offer a great deal of support when used long term, it’s better suited to a guest bedroom or for a children’s room where the sleeper is lightweight. It also lacks a suitable amount of pressure relief especially for heavier sleepers.

When it comes to motion isolation, the DreamCloud does a good enough job. If you’re a light sleeper with a restless partner you may find some disturbance but overall it does a good job at absorbing motion.

The Linenspa doesn’t quite deliver the same results, it’s feel is more like a traditional innerspring so it does have a lot of bounce which means you're likely to feel a restless partner, kids or pets moving around.

The edge support on the DreamCloud is fantastic, for those who like to sleep close to the edge or enjoy sitting on the bed to get ready you’ll feel stable and not like you’re about to roll out. This makes it a great choice for couples. The Linenspa edge support is subpar, it lacks serious support on the edges meaning it would likely be fine for small children but for anyone with mobility issues who struggle to get in and out of bed, it could be a problem.

Dreamcloud vs Linenspa 8” memory foam hybrid: Temperature regulation

  • Both mattresses have a hybrid design, with coils for extra airflow
  • The DreamCloud has a gel-infused layer for some cooling power
  • The Linenspa has no specific cooling materials

Neither of these mattresses are classed as cooling mattresses but the DreamCloud however does do a pretty good job of keeping sleepers comfortable and cool, with it scoring an impressive 4.5/5.

The DreamCloud has a soft, breathable cashmere cover to improve airflow, and there’s also a layer of gel memory foam which is designed to dissipate heat more than traditional dense foam. The layer of coils also promotes extra airflow to help keep sleepers cool.

The Linenspa uses a small amount of memory foam and poly foam so there's not lots of dense material to trap heat, and the coils do a decent job of promoting airflow. However, our reviewer only scored this mattress a 3.5/4 for temperature regulation, stating they did sleep a little warm from the heat getting trapped within the layers of foam.

So if you’re a hot sleeper, you may find the DreamCloud is a better option. Alternatively, for a smaller budget, consider the Cocoon by Sealy Chill mattress. It has great cooling benefits and is one of our top-rated budget mattresses. Read our full Cocoon by Sealy Chill mattress review for more information.
