Avocado Green vs Essentia Stratmi: Design & Materials

  • The Avocado Green is 11”
  • The Essentia Stratami comes in 8” or 11”
  • Both use GOTS-certified materials

Both of these mattresses are organic but differ in both their build and materials used. The Avocado Green is one of the best hybrid mattresses using a combination of latex and coils. It has an 11-inch profile made up using three layers.

It starts with a 100% GOTS-certified organic cotton and wool cover, which is soft to the touch and breathable meaning you won’t get too hot overnight. There is then a comfort layer which is made up using Dunlop latex before a support layer featuring 1,414 coils which are spread across five ergonomic zones.

The Essentia Stratami comes in two height options, 8-inch and 11-inch. It has four layers, starting with a removable GOTS-certified organic cotton cover. Underneath that is a layer of Kevlar (the same material used in bulletproof vests) which acts as a natural flame retardant.

Next is a dome shaped organic latex layer followed by another layer of GOLS-certified organic latex which acts as a support core. You are able to upgrade to an EMF Protection foam which claims to shield you from exposure to electromagnetic fields but this can cost up to $700 depending on the size of your mattress. Despite using latex, Essentia claims that their bed is safe for those who have latex allergies as there are no latex proteins used.

Avocado Green vs Essentia Stratami: Support & Comfort

  • The Avocado Green is a medium-firm mattress rated 7 out of 10
  • The Essentia Stratami is also medium firm but 6.5 out of 10
  • Both are great for back and stomach sleepers

Both of these mattresses are medium-firm but would be classed as being more on the firmer site. The Avocado Green is rated as 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale and during our Avocado Green mattress review our testers agreed with the rating.

This mattress is perfect for back and stomach sleepers as it offers the perfect balance of sink-in softness with support around the hips. Side sleepers, especially lighter weight sleepers, may find it too firm without enough give around the shoulders, but combination sleepers will also find this a comfortable option. This mattress does come in medium and plush options, although these can get pretty pricey.

The Essentia Stratami is slightly softer at 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale but it does feel more on the firmer side. This mattress is also a good choice for back and stomach sleepers with side sleepers potentially finding it too firm. During our Essentia Stratami mattress review, our tester found that the organic latex was firm but not quite as firm as some of the best memory foam mattresses so there’s plenty of bounce for those who move around at night.

Both mattresses excel when it comes to motion isolation so it’s a great choice for anyone who shares a bed with a restless partner. The Avocado Green also excels when it comes to edge support, it has a steel perimeter around the edge so if you like to sleep close to the edge of the bed you’ll make the most out of the extended sleep surface.

Whilst the Essentia Stratami doesn’t have any springs or reinforced edges, it does still have good edge support. If you sit on the sides or foot of the bed you won’t feel any dipping or sagging, and likewise, if you like to sleep close to the edge.

Avocado Green vs Essentia Stratami: Temperature control

  • Both mattresses feature latex which is naturally cool
  • The Avocado Green has a coil layer for extra airflow
  • The Essentia Stratami has a domed latex layer for more airflow

Organic latex sleeps cooler than some other mattress materials so whilst neither of these mattresses are classed as the best cooling mattress, they do still do an excellent job of staying temperature-neutral throughout the night.

The Avocado Green is one of the best mattress in a box beds that feels cool to the touch. This is largely down to the brand's use of organic cotton and wool within it’s cover which is both breathable and moisture-wicking. But also the use of latex which is naturally cool and the coils which promotes airflow within the layers means this bed scores top marks when it comes to temperature regulation.

The Essentia Stratami is also a good option for hot sleepers. The cotton cover helps keep things cool but the dome-shaped latex layer means there’s plenty of space for air to flow freely around the bed.
