Star Wars: Ahsoka release date, trailer and everything we know so far
Rosario Dawson is reprising her role as former Jedi padawan Ahsoka Tano
Ahsoka Tano's Disney Plus show, Star Wars: Ahsoka, is almost here — and we just got the first official trailer. And while this new series could be seen as a spinoff of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, it's more like a reunion for a different show: Rebels.
For the uninitiated, Ahsoka is a popular character who was introduced in the animated series The Clone Wars and Star War Wars: Rebels. She made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season 2, when Mando and Grogu went looking for her on the forest planet of Corvus. She was engaged in a standoff with Imperial Magistrate Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto), ruler of the city of Calodan.
At the end of the episode, Ahsoka had defeated Morgan Elsbeth and gotten the info she wanted — the whereabouts of Grand Admiral Thrawn (another character from The Clone Wars).
In The Book of Boba Fett, she connected with Mando when he came to visit Grogu while training with Luke Skywalker. She and Luke seem to have developed a camaraderie as fellow Force users.
Here's everything we know about the Star Wars: Ahsoka series.
Star Wars: Ahsoka trailers
The first official Ahsoka trailer sees the titular star cross paths with Rebels favorites Sabine (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Hera (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). It also shows us the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen).
The first Ahsoka teaser trailer revealed that a new big bad force is coming — or, more technically, emerging from the animated shows. The below clip shows how Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) is concerned with the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), who believes he is the heir to the empire.

That clip continues to tease Thrawn's emergence. Here's the poster that announced Ahsoka's August release window.
Star Wars: Ahsoka cast
Of course, the Star Wars: Ahsoka cast is led by Rosario Dawson, who brought the character to live-action.
The next revealed cast member was Hayden Christensen, who will reprise the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader he played in the prequel trilogy. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news.
THR also broke word that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Birds of Prey) is also going to be in Ahsoka. She's playing Hera Syndulla, as seen in the above trailer.
Mon Mothma (Genevieve O'Reilly) and Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) will also be in the series. Syndulla and Wren are Star Wars Rebels characters, as is Ezra Bridger, who will be played by Eman Esfandi. David Tennant will play the droid Huyang.
Three of the show's villains have been announced: Ray Stevenson will be playing Baylan Skoll, Diana Lee Inosanto as Morgan Elsbeth and Ivanna Sakhno will be playing Shin Hati.
Grand Admiral Thrawn is the main villain of the series, and it was revealed that voice actor Lars Mikkelsen — who voiced him in Rebels — will also play the role in the live-action series. This news broke at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
It's possible that characters from The Mandalorian make appearances on the spinoff. We'd love to see Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) reunite with Ahsoka. And while the former Jedi may have turned down the task of training Grogu, she's the only one who's been able to communicate with him via the Force. Perhaps they'll share wordless visions again.
