1. First off, open the main menu and select the 'Messages' icon as shown below.

2. Next, click on the three-dotted-icon located on the top right corner. This should reveal a new menu.

3. In the drop-down menu, go ahead and select the 'Settings' option as indicated on the screenshot below.

4. You should now be able to view the extended 'Messages settings'. Select 'Block numbers and messages' to proceed.

5. Next, click on the 'Caller ID and spam protection' option as shown below.

6. You should now be able to toggle on the spam protection. This should help your smartphone identify any potential spam and scam senders/callers as well as those who aren't listed in your contacts.

Most major carriers, such as Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, allow you to report any potential spam text messages by forwarding them to 7726. Check with your carrier if this is applicable to you. And if you're UK-based, you can do the same by forwarding a spam text message to the number mentioned above.
