Following a 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace on the opening day of the season, Arsenal followed up last weekend with a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to Fulham. After trailing to a first minute goal from Andreas Pereira for most of the game, Arsenal hit back twice in the 70th and 72nd minute through Saka and the lively Nketiah and looked to have the three points sewn up before a late equaliser from Calvin Bassey frustrated the home side and once again posed a question mark over their ability to cross the finishing line.
With Arsenal missing out after sitting at the top of the Premier League for most of the 2022-23 season, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta will be extra focused on the challenge posed by potential rivals Man Utd. The Gunners did the double over the Old Trafford side last year season and with United to hit convincing form this season, Arteta’s men will be confident at The Emirates. Zinchenko and Jesus will be back to help Arsenal achieve victory while Thomas Partey, Jurrien Timber and Mohamed Elneny are all unavailable.
Man Utd enjoyed a comeback win against Nottingham Forest last weekend after going down to two early goals from on-form Awoniyi (with his sixth goal in consecutive games) and Willy Boly. The home side managed to get back into the game when Eriksen slotted home in the 17th minute and continued to pressurise until Casemiro finished a neat move from a few yards out to grab the equaliser just after half-time. A 67th minute red card for Forest defender Joe Worrall spurred on the Red Devils to get a third, winning goal from Bruno Fernandes via a controversial penalty 10 minutes later.
After a shaky start to the season, a visit to The Emirates will not have been high on Erik ten Hag’s wish list but if United are to challenge for major honours they need to improve upon their record away from home against other title rivals. A makeshift defence will not help here but Arsenal are also weakened at the back and if Rashford and Anthony can click on the flanks United might be able to get something from the game. Shaw, Varane and Malacia are still injured in the United defence along with Mason Mount, Amad Diallo and Kobbe Mainoo for their midfield. Rasmus Hojlund is still yet to make his debut because of injury in pre season but he will be in the squad today.
Line ups:
