TECNO, a tech company previously known for its CAMON phone series, announced in 2022 that it would be expanding its AIoT lineup of mobile devices to include ultra thin and lightweight laptops. The first foray into this sector was revealed to be the MEGABOOK T1, a unique looking ultrabook featuring a 11th gen Intel processor that was designed to appeal to a younger generation of mobile users. The MEGABOOK T1 was budget friendly but still capable of everyday use while also being incredibly thin and lightweight. The T1 clocked in at just 1.48kg in weight, with a 14.8mm profile despite being a 15.6 inch device. It even had seven color choices available.
The MEGABOOK T1 was just the start of a series of laptops planned by TECNO, however, and the natural next step was to reveal the newest flagship device at MWC 2023. The MEGABOOK S1 2023 will pair together an Intel Core i7-1360P with 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM, offering a considerable step up from the previously released T1.
Senior VP/Chair of INTEL China, Wang Rui, visited TECNO at MWC 2023, and met with Ha Le, the Vice President of Transsion Holdings, marking a new milestone in the cooperation between TECNO and Intel. Both parties were pleased to continue cooperating to create products that are loved by consumers worldwide. Wang Rui and Ha Le both expressed their enthusiasm for the future of the partnership, and agreed to consider product performance, user experiences, and solutions jointly in the future, with the goal of creating better experiences and fulfilling customer needs. They are both confident that this partnership will continue to yield exciting new developments in the technology industry.
The upgraded processor and ram under the hood of the S1 are not all the new device has to offer, however. It also features an even thinner, lighter chassis. Constructed of magnesium alloy the MEGABOOK S1 2023 taps in at just 1.35kg with a thickness of 13.5mm, though the color options offered by the T1 are missing here. Thin doesn’t necessarily mean that the MEGABOOK S1 is lacking in size, however, as the laptop features a full 15.6 inch display that offers a 16:10 borderless screen capable of 3.2k resolution and 120Hz refresh rate while pushing 450 nits of brightness. In addition to a standard screen the chassis offers 7 ports including USB 4.0, USB-C, HDMI, a card reader port, and a headphone jack.
The MEGABOOK S1’s small stature but high performance output makes it suitable for the creator on the go. A 70Wh battery keeps the workflow up and running for approximately 12 hours, while a super lightweight 65W gallium nitride charger helps to quickly replenish a drained battery in record time. For added productivity, the MEGABOOK S1 benefits from TECNO’s OneLeap system which allows TECNO smartphones within the vicinity of a MEGABOOK laptop to sync via an over-the-air connection. While synced, up to 2 screens can be cast to the laptop and share clipboards, documents, and even reverse network sharing. File transfers can even be initiated using three finger gesture inputs thanks to TECNO’s SwiftTransfer tech.
While creativity and productivity are certainly front and center when it comes to the design of the MEGABOOK S1, there’s no doubt that the laptop was intended to serve as an entertainment device for personal use, as well. The MEGABOOK S1 2023 features a screen to body ratio of 90%, with the enlarged screen size serving to provide a better view of portrait content. Four full-frequency speakers are boosted by two tweeters and DTS x ULTRA technology to provide a surround sound effect. A 2MP camera and built in mic are also part of the system, and feature protective software to prevent would-be-hijackers.
Both the MEGABOOK T1 and S1 2023 models of ultrabooks will be available to purchase via the TECNO website.
