Senegal may be the third seed in Group A but they will definitely fancy their chances of progressing through to the knockout rounds. Nicknamed 'The Lions of Teranga' the West-African side have already shown plenty of fight this year, winning the African Cup of Nations. Many European football fans expected Senegal to rely on the performances of Bayern Munich (and former Liverpool) forward Sadio Mane. The recent Ballon D’or runner-up is his nation’s top scorer of all time with an impressive 34 goals in 93 appearances but heartbreakingly he picked up an injury days before the tournament and although in the squad, he may not be fit to play. But Senegal are far from a one-man team. Manager Aliou Cisse can draw on the quality of Chelsea stars Kalidou Koulibaly at the back and Edouard Mendy in goal, a pair of players most sides in the tournament would envy. Throw in a few impressive younger players like Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr and Milan fullback Fode Ballo-Toure and no-one will relish taking on Senegal.
The Netherlands are one of the most prestigious names in international football but surprisingly have never won the competition. Having not qualified for Russia 2018, Louis Van Gaal’s side have a point to prove, and a group of players itching to show their best selves on football’s biggest stage. After dominating qualifying with 33 goals scored and just 8 conceded they will be strong favorites for this group. With a reputation for entertaining football stemming all the way back to the 1970s, football fans will welcome back that famous orange kit with open arms. Two players aiming to keep that tradition alive will be Frenkie De Jong and Memphis Depay. The Barcelona men are the creative force of this team but the Oranje also boast an impressive defense containing regular Champions League quality defenders Virgil Van Dijk, Denzel Dumfries and Stefan De Vrij. Sadly, usual captain, Georginio Wijnaldum is out of the tournament after breaking his leg earlier this season.
These two sides have never faced each other at the World Cup before, and with the Netherlands having to wait eight years since their last appearance at the tournament, the Senegal vs Netherlands live stream should be an exciting clash between two top teams.
