The teams have met twice before in the final of the Champions League — that famous night in Istanbul in 2005 which saw Liverpool come from 3-0 down to win on penalties, and in 2007, when AC Milan came out on top, winning 2-1.
Both teams have started their respective league seasons well. Prior to beating Leeds 0-3 on Sunday, Liverpool had seen off both Norwich City and Burnley, before drawing with Chelsea. AC Milan, meanwhile, have an 100 percent record in Serie A so far, having beaten Sampdoria, Cagliari, and Lazio.
Liverpool will be without young midfielder Harvey Elliot, who suffered a very serious ankle injury in the victory at Elland Road. Club captain Jordan Henderson steps in for him, while Naby Keita replaces Thiago. The big surprise is that Virgil van Dijk is only on the subs bench, with Joe Gomez getting his first game in months.
Former Arsenal and Chelsea forward Olivier Giroud is back in contention for AC Milan following a COVID-enforced absence in recent days, but he's only on the bench, with Ante Rebic starting up front. Fans will unfortunately not be treated to the return of the always-entertaining Zlatan Ibrahimović, who is unavailable for the Rossoneri with an achilles injury.
Here's how they line up:
Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Gomez, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Jota, Salah, Origi.
