'Deadpool & Wolverine': how to watch, trailers and everything you need to know

Marvel's only film of 2024, "Deadpool 3", AKA "Deadpool & Wolverine", ended up — unsurprisingly — becoming one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.

It's easy to see why, frankly. Not only was it Wade Wilson's highly-anticipated third cape, "Deadpool & Wolverine" also saw the two titular heroes formally setting foot in the MCU proper. It also came during a bit of a Marvel dry spell, and it's clear fans were jonesing for more big-screen superhero antics.

Hype levels for "Deadpool & Wolverine" were through the roof ahead of release, and they translated to a monster run at the box office, raking in over $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the second-biggest movie of the year, behind "Inside Out 2".

Haven't managed to find time to see "Deadpool 3" just yet? Be sure to check out our guide explaining where and when you can stream "Deadpool & Wolverine", too. Otherwise, read on to find out everything you need to know about the movie, including the release date, cast, plot, and trailers.

After several changes, the "Deadpool and Wolverine" release date ended up being July 26, 2024, a little over four months ahead of schedule (it was initially slotted to hit theaters on Nov. 8, 2024).

"Deadpool and Wolverine" made its streaming debut on Disney Plus — one of the best streaming services — on November 12, 2024.

'Deadpool & Wolverine' trailers

On April 22, the official "Deadpool and Wolverine" trailer was released, giving us a few more glimpses of what's to come.

In the trailer, Deadpool approaches a rather drunk Wolverine in a bar, and asks him for help. As the trailer unfolds, it's revealed that Deadpool is asking for help to save his world, with the implication being that Wolverine was unsuccessful in saving his own. So it looks like the multiverse is still very much in play in the MCU.

A teaser trailer was released in February 2024, which shows a number of characters from earlier Deadpool films, including Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand), Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Things seem to be going pretty well until a visit from the Time Variance Authority (which we last saw in Loki) sends Deadpool on a universe-hopping adventure.

As of June 28, we got another short teaser that reveals more action scenes between Deadpool and Wolverine, along with a surprise reveal of one of Marvel's coolest villains. Yes, that's right, Marvel casually dropped the villain Sabretooth (played by Tyler Mane) in the teaser. Although we don't see much of him, we do know that his hatred for poor Wolverine is still there, and so they'll probably join together in an epic fight scene.

The final "Deadpool & Wolverine" trailer arrived on July 19, just one week out from the movie's debut. Beginning with a slightly more somber tone, it shows how much appreciation Wade had for Hugh Jackman's Wolverine and sets the stakes for their adventure.

Spoilers!

Seeing as "Deadpool & Wolverine" has been out for some time (and practically everyone who is interested must have seen it by now, judging by its box office takings), it's safe to run down the "Deadpool 3" plot, right?

After making a failed bid to join The Avengers (while making liberal use of "Deadpool 2" ally Cable's time-travel device), a retired Deadpool is captured by the TVA and brought before an agent called Paradox. He offers Wade a role on Earth-616, while also revealing that he plans to "prune" Wade's destabilizing home timeline with a Time Ripper device.

That news prompts Deadpool to steal Paradox's TemPad and use it to find a Wolverine to help him save the world... seeing as the death of "anchor being" Logan is the cause of his world's deterioration. After going through a number of options, Deadpool eventually finds what he deems to be a suitable variant — who just so happens to be the worst Wolverine in the multiverse — the pair are sent to The Void, where they brush shoulders with Cassandra Nova and her loyal group of variants. Cue a fight for survival, an escape back to Earth-10005, and more run-ins with Nova, Paradox, and an army of Deadpool variants as they scramble to save the day.

'Deadpool & Wolverine' cast and crew

Shawn Levy — who worked on "Free Guy" and "The Adam Project" with Ryan Reynolds — directed "Deadpool & Wolverine," per a post from The Hollywood Reporter.

As noted above, Hugh Jackman reprises the role of Wolverine. Below is what became our first look at Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in Deadpool 3, note the yellow and blue wardrobe most familiar from the comics and animated series.

Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin were on board to write "Deadpool 3." If you're a "Bob's Burgers" fan, you might recognize their names as they've been writing for the show for years. Then, previous "Deadpool" movie writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were brought into replace them.

When it comes to the rest of the cast, Ryan Reynolds reprised his role as Wade Wilson/ Deadpool, and seeing as Vanessa isn't dead anymore, Morena Baccarin also returned.

But they're far from the only familiar faces returning for the threequel. As we saw in the first trailer, also reprising their roles from the first two "Deadpool" films are Stefan Kapičić (Colossus), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic), Shioli Kutsuna (Yukio), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), Karen Soni (Dopinder), and Rob Delaney (Peter).

"Succesion's" Matthew Macfadyen joined the cast as a new Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent called Paradox, which adds major ties between "Deadpool 3" and "Loki" season 2. The Hollywood Reporter previously broke the news that Jennifer Garner would reprise the role of Elektra for the film. This version of the character was first seen in 20th Century Fox’s "Daredevil" and the solo "Elektra" movie. We also learned from a short teaser released by Marvel that Tyler Mane is back as Sabretooth (from the "X-Men" universe).

In February 2024, it was announced that Emma Corrin of "The Crown" fame had signed on to the project, and we eventually learned that she would play Cassandra Nova, Charles Xavier's twin sister.

As we eventually learned, Garner and Tyler Mane were far from the only returning faces; check out our guide to all the major "Deadpool & Wolverine" cameos for a full run-down of everyone who returned.
