In fact, the last time these two met in the league was back in 1947 — there really isn't any recent history for either side to draw on here. Brentford certainly shouldn't be overawed by the occasion, though, having started the season very well; they currently sit seventh, just four points behind Chelsea.
That said, a game against Chelsea is about as hard as they come. The Blues go into the weekend top of the Premier League table and with just one defeat so far. Most impressively, they've only conceded three goals, the joint lowest in the top flight.
If Brentford are to break down that formidable defense, they'll need star striker Ivan Toney to add to the brace of goals he's so far hit this season, having notched a record-breaking 31 last year.
Chelsea have an even greater goal threat of course, in the form of Romelu Lukaku — and he plays here despite having missed Belgium's second international in midweek. Antonio Rudiger and Thiago Silva are both out, though, but midfielder N’Golo Kante returns after suffering from Covid-19. Andreas Christensen and Malang Sarr also start.
For Brentford, Shandon Baptiste is missing, having dislocated his shoulder, with Mathias Jensen replacing him. Kristoffer Ajer has also recovered from injury and is on the bench.
Here's how they line up:
