Tom's Guide Verdict

The Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is billed as water-resistant (but we'd go as far to say it's completely waterproof after carrying out multiple spill tests), as well as resistant to bed bugs, dust mites and bacteria. After sleeping on it for months, we found the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector to be cool-to-the-touch, noiseless, and easy to care for thanks to its dryer and washing machine safe material. However, it does have a slightly slippery surface, even if its skirted design snugly anchors it to your mattress (not suitable for mattresses over 14" tall). At $96.75 for a queen on sale we feel it's worth every penny to properly protect your mattress and in doing so to help it last longer.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector: Review in brief

  • Hypoallergenic and resistant to water, dust mites, and bed bugs
  • Made with cooling polyethylene fibers to pull away body heat
  • Comes with a five-year warranty and 30-day returns

Brooklyn Bedding is a US brand known for its sleep products and accessories, including mattresses (some of which get an honorable mention in our best mattress of 2025 guide), mattress toppers, pillows and mattress protectors. The brand has three mattress protectors in its line-up, and the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector (formerly known as the GlacioTex Waterproof Mattress Protector) is its only cooling option.

We slept on a full-sized Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector for several months, throughout both cooler and warmer weather. During this period, we also carried out repeat spill, wash, and dry tests to assess its water resistance. After full testing we now rate it as one of this year's best mattress protectors for people who want to add more cooling power to their existing mattress as well as keep it safe from bugs, dirt, stains and spills.

In addition to our own tests, we also studied online customer reviews published on Brooklyn Bedding's website, along with reviews published on the websites of three of its sub-brands: Dreamfoam Bedding, Plank Mattress, and Titan Mattress

The Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector comes in six sizes (no crib option) and is the most expensive of three models sold by Brooklyn Bedding. At MSRP, a twin costs $99, a queen is priced $129, and a king is $149.

These prices place the mattress protector in the premium price bracket for waterproof mattress protectors, with most mid-range waterproof mattress protectors costing around $60 for a queen.

The Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector was completely noiseless and made no crinkly sounds

The Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector earned an overall score of 4.5 out of 5 in our tests. We were impressed with its advanced cooling properties and the high water resistance it showcased during multiple spill tests (in which we spilled water and tea directly on the protector), where our mattress always stayed bone-dry. Plus, thank to the machine-washable, dryer-safe fabric, we were able to wash out tea stains and (accidental) sunscreen stains with ease.

Its cooling properties comes from its heat-dissipating polyester-polythene blend, otherwise known as GlacioTex. A common complaint with mattresses, bed toppers, and waterproof mattress protectors that use GlacioTex is that the ultra-cooling material is so silky smooth it becomes slippery – a complaint we can corroborate. However, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector was completely noiseless and made no crinkly sounds (an issue found in a lot of waterproof models).

While Brooklyn Bedding's other two mattress protectors also offer waterproof protection, neither feature the cooling tech of the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector. While the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector may be the most expensive of the line-up, its cool-to-the-touch temperature regulation is worth the luxury price tag if you overheat at night or live in a warmer climate.

We highly recommend this Brooklyn Bedding mattress protector if you experience night sweats or your sleep environment is too warm. It would also be a good choice for you if your mattress has a tendency to trap excess body heat – for example memory foam mattress can retain heat.

Brooklyn Bedding offers 30-day returns, which is a little disappointing as other bedding brands (such as Coops Home Goods which makes our top-rated Coop Home Goods Ultratech Waterproof Mattress Protector) offer official sleep trial periods that allow you to literally sleep on your purchase before deciding if it's right for you.

However, Brooklyn Bedding's protector does come with a three-year warranty, which is slightly better than the one-year warranty that usually comes with mattress protectors and indicates good longevity, too. Brooklyn Bedding delivery is free, with orders usually shipping within five to seven business days.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: Design and materials

  • Hypoallergenic and resists liquids, bed bugs, dust mites, and bacteria
  • Has a fitted, elasticated design that fits mattresses up to 14" tall
  • Uses a heat-dissipating polyester-polythene blend for advanced cooling

Before it was rebranded to focus on its premium quality and cooling technology, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector was named the GlacioTex Waterproof Mattress Protector. While Brooklyn Bedding now describe the cooling fabric as "high-tech PE fibers", the heat-dissipating material is commonly known by the trademarked GlacioTex.

This material, made from 50% polyester and 50% polythene, has fibers with high thermal conductivity that pulls away body heat, and it's inherently hypoallergenic and waterproof, too.

Our sleep team at Tom's Guide have tested a wide range of products - from bed toppers to cooling mattresses - which use these polythene fibers, and we are always impressed with the cool-to-the-touch, silky comfort they provide; the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is no exception.

Its surface also has honeycomb stitching, with each hexagon feeling soft and smooth, with a subtle puffiness. However, the silkiness of the waterproof, polythene fabric is known to be quite slippery, which we found to be the case when we added a flat sheet on top and it kept sliding.

While Brooklyn Bedding dubs this as water resistant, the mattress protector's former name suggests its completely waterproof — which we can vouch for. As well as protecting your bed from spills and liquids, the allergy-free Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is also designed to be noise-free and resistant to bed bugs, bacteria and dust mites. On the whole, this protector offers your mattress full protection without sacrificing breathability and temperature regulation.

This is not an encasement, so it won't protect the underside of your mattress. However, its elasticated, skirted design is easy to slip over your mattress like as fitted sheet for a snug, anchored fit. It has a pocket depth of 14 inches, so should fit the majority of mattresses. However, if your mattress is over 14 inches or you have a thick mattress topper adding to your bed's height, you may want to check out Brooklyn Bedding's Deep Pocket Mattress Protector instead.

While Brooklyn Bedding makes all their best hybrid mattresses at their Arizona factory, this mattress protector is made in China.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: Price & trial

  • A queen is often $90.30 to $96.75 thanks to regular 25%-30% discounts
  • Affordable compared to its sister brands' cooling protectors
  • Incudes free shipping, 30-day returns, and a three-year warranty

Brooklyn Bedding makes three mattress protectors, and the Luxury Cooling is the most expensive one. The Deep Pocket Mattress Protector (from $79 at Brooklyn Bedding) is the cheapest of the line-up and is designed to fit any mattress up to 18" deep, while the Brooklyn Bedding Mattress Encasement (from $89 at Brooklyn Bedding) is designed to encase your entire mattress.

While all three mattress protectors are designed to add water resistant protection, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is the only one to offer cooling tech.

While a queen-size Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector costs $129 at MSRP, you'll always see a discount at Brooklyn Bedding. The standard deal is 25% off, which takes a queen down to $96.75. However, you can catch a 30% off sale during major Holiday events, such as the Memorial Day mattress sales in May, the 4th of July mattress sales, and the Labor Day mattress sales in early September. This discount will take a queen down to $90.30 instead.

Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector: twinwas $99 now $74.25 at Brooklyn Bedding

Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector: twin was $99 now $74.25 at Brooklyn Bedding
The Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector from Brooklyn Bedding is currently $96.75 for a queen (down from $129) thanks to a standard 25% discount. However, you can usually find a 30% off deal during major holiday events, which will reduce a queen to $90.30 instead. Extras include free shipping, 30-day returns and a 3-year warranty.

In terms of extras, it's a shame that Brooklyn Bedding only offers 30-day returns rather than a sleep trial (which Helix and Leesa offer). However, it does come with free shipping and a three-year warranty, which is two years longer than the one-year warranties at Bear, Helix, Leesa, and Nolah.

Curiously, sister brands Nolah, Helix, Bear, and Leesa all offer cooling waterproof mattress protectors with suspiciously near-identical designs that use a polyester-polyethene material with a hexagon design for cooling water resistance. Despite the similar design, each mattress protector vary in name and price.

A queen size GlacioTex Cooling Mattress Protector costs $99 in an evergreen sale at Nolah and a queen GlacioTex Protector costs $163 in a sale at Bear Mattress.

Meanwhile, the queen-sized GlacioTex Mattress Protector costs $224.07 in a sale at Helix and an Ultra Cooling Mattress Protector costs $224 in a sale at Leesa. By far, Brooklyn Bedding has the best deal on what is basically the same cooling mattress protector.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: Performance

We reviewed a full size version of the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector, testing it for several months on an innerspring bed. We also machine washed, tumble-dried, and air dried the mattress protector (following the care guidelines) multiple times.

Here’s what we discovered during our review period…

Shipping

The Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector ships for free within five to seven business days, which is pretty standard delivery timeframe for bedding.

When the mattress protector arrived, it was intact and encased in zip-up transparent storage bag. While the plastic storage bag isn't recyclable and would have benefited from a handle for carrying, it is reusable and good-quality. It's ideal for storing not just bedding, but other items such as toys or toiletries. The only other packaging was a cardboard insert, which is recyclable.

Test score: 4.5 out of 5

Noise

While many waterproof mattress protectors are prone to making a crinkling noise when you move around on them, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector was completely noise-free. It remained silent even when we tossed and turned, got in and out of bed, or changed sleep position.

Test score: 5 out of 5

Ease of fit

A closer look at the elasticated, fitted design of the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector

The skirted design of the full-sized mattress protector means you can snugly cover your mattress as you would with a fitted sheet. Its 14" depth meant we could easily place it on a full-sized bed without any pulling or tugging. In fact, one of our testers even managed to fit it over a queen-sized bed with no trouble.

However, bear in mind that all the beds we covered with the protector were under 14", so anyone with a mattress over 14" will need to opt for a deep pocket protector instead.

Test score: 4.5 out of 5

Slipperiness

The PE fibers may quickly pull away heat from your body, but the cooling material is notoriously slippery. In our experience, adding a flat sheet on top of the mattress was quite tricky, as it would sometimes slip off the protector's slick surface.

While the slipperiness was reduce when we used a fitted sheet, the slipperiness of the protector could still be felt at night when we adjusted our sleep position. This side effect of the silky, waterproof fabric is not a deal breaker, as it became less noticeable the longer we used the protector, but it could be a problem if you prefer a flat sheet or you're a restless sleeper.

Test score: 3.5 out of 5

Cooling

A hand feels the Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector to test its temperature control

When we first unboxed the Luxury Cooling Mattress Topper and slid it out of its plastic storage bag, we were immediately struck by how cold it felt. This mattress protector is definitely made from a cool-touch material that delivers the high-tech cooling Brooklyn Bedding promises.

However, it's one thing for a protector to be cool-to-the-touch, but it's quite another for it keep you consistently cool throughout the night. So, did the the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector deliver refreshing, uninterrupted sleep?

Our lead tester slept on the mattress protector through the warmer summer months (heatwaves included) in a home without air-conditioning, as well as during the cooler autumn and winter months. The mattress protector kept her consistently cool through warm nights and summertime heatwaves but not too cold in the wintertime.

We were initially concerned that the cooling tech would fade away after prolonged use and multiple, but it always remained cool to the touch.

Test score: 5 out of 5

Waterproofing

We find it perplexing that Brooklyn Bedding refers to the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector as just "water resistant", when we would definitely bill it as full-blown waterproof after conducting our spill tests. (After all, its former name was the GlacioTex Waterproof Mattress Protector.)

As water resistance can wear off after repeat laundering, we conducted spill tests every time we washed and dried the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector.

To test the protector's waterproof resistance, we placed a sponge and paper towel on top of the mattress and underneath the protector to form a designated "splash zone". We then spilled tea, water, and (accidentally) sunscreen on the mattress protector within the splash zone. We repeated this test after every wash and dry cycle, and the sponge and kitchen towel remained bone dry and free from stains each time.

Test score: 5 out of 5

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: User reviews

  • Overall customer rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars at Brooklyn Bedding
  • User reviews praise the cooling tech and water resistance,
  • Some complain the smooth fabric is too slippery and plastic-like

To get a panoramic picture of the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector's quality, we also analyzed online customer reviews and user ratings. When conducting our user review research we examined customer ratings at Brooklyn Bedding and its sub-brands' websites, including Dreamfoam, Titan Mattress, and Plank Mattress.

At Brooklyn Bedding, the mattress protector has an overall customer rating of 4.6 stars based on 1,009 reviews. Meanwhile, at its sub-brands, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Topper has an overall rating of 4.5 stars, with each site accumulating over 1,300 reviews.

The average customer review ratings online are as follows:

Brooklyn Bedding user rating: 4.6/5 stars (1,009reviews)

Titan Mattress user rating: 4.5/5 stars (1,388 reviews)

Dreamfoam user rating: 4.5/5 stars (1,389 reviews)

Plank Mattress user rating: 4.5/5 stars (1,384 reviews)

Customer feedback is mostly positive. Many customers comment on how the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector significantly reduced their night sweats and protected their mattress against spills and pets, with some remarking that the cooling protection is worth the luxe price tag.

Praise was also reserved for the lack of noise and wrinkling, the extra layer of padding the honeycomb design offers, and how easy it was to put the protector on their bed.

However, it isn't all praise. Negative feedback generally echoed our complaints, namely that the mattress protector is too slippery and causes sheets to slide. Also, while a lot of customers expressed their love of the silky-smooth cooling fabric, others said it felt like cheap plastic or Teflon.

Examining customer feedback also gives us a better idea of the durability of the protector, as we admittedly aren't able to gauge longevity from several months of testing. While we couldn't find many reviews commenting on durability, one reviewer mentioned that the protector held up throughout five years of heavy use.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: Cleaning & care

  • Machine-washable and dryer-safe fabric
  • Avoid dry cleaning and using fabric softener
  • Not suitable for bleaching

The care instruction label of the Brooklyn Bedding Cooling Mattress Protector

As per the care instructions label, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is machine-washable, and it's recommended that you wash it on a cold, gentle cycle with a mild detergent. You can also line dry, tumble dry on a low setting, or air dry the mattress protector.

In our experience, the waterproof material does take a while to dry, even when we put it on the clothes line in hot, sunny weather, so we recommend dabbing the GlacioTex surface with a towel or dry cloth to soak up any extra moisture before air drying or putting it in the dryer.

Always avoid bleaching or using fabric softener when machine-washing a waterproof mattress protector, as these can cause damage to the waterproof layer's liquid-absorption. For more information about caring for your waterproof mattress protector, visit our guide on how to wash and dry a waterproof mattress protector.

Brooklyn Bedding Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector review: Should you buy it?

If you're a hot sleeper who wants a waterproof mattress protector with high-quality active cooling tech rather than simple breathability, the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is worth the premium price.

For the cost, you'll also get a hypoallergenic sleep surface that's resistant against spills, bed bugs, dust mites, and bacteria. It also securely covers your mattress with an easy-to-use skirted design.

The only drawbacks we found with this mattress protector is its slippery surface and depth, which doesn't fit mattresses over 14" tall. All things considered, however, these are minor complaints as we did get used to the slickness over time and the majority of best mattresses in a box are not over 14".

Buy it if…

You want high-quality protection: The Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is designed to resist bed bugs, dust mites, and bacteria, and our spill tests concluded that it will grant you full-blown waterproof protection.

You want a cheaper alternative to a cooling mattress or topper: While cooling beds and mattress toppers are a great way to add temperature regulation to your sleep set-up they can be expensive, with the average queen cooling mattress costing $1,407 and the average queen cooling topper costing $375. Meanwhile, a queen-sized Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector costs $96.75.

You experience night sweats or live in a warmer climate: We tested the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector through summer nights and heatwaves, and it kept us consistently cool. Plus, we've trawled through customer reviews and the consensus is that it effectively keeps night sweats at bay, too.

Don’t buy it if…

You move around a lot or prefer fitted sheets: The surface of the Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector is pretty slippery, which may be a problem if you're a restless sleeper or prefer using flat sheets to fitted sheets.

You want full protection for the bottom of your bed: If you're looking to keep the underside of your mattress clean and protected, you'll need a mattress encasement instead.

❌ You have a mattress over 14": The Luxury Cooling Mattress Protector has a depth of 14", so won't fit mattresses any thicker. So, if you have one of the best luxury mattresses that are taller than 14" or have a thick memory mattress topper boosting your bed's height, look for a deep pocket mattress protector instead.
