Tom's Guide Verdict
The Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier is a simple unit designed to work in larger spaces. Despite having basic controls to contend with, it did its job quickly. However, it could be improved with an app to control it remotely.

If you're on the market for one of the best dehumidifiers, the Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier does a grand job. Ideal for larger spaces up to 1,200 square feet, it controls humidity very quickly and works well in very damp places.
What's more, if you happen to be among the class of consumers that yearns for simple devices that don't require an app , Frigidaire is there for you. The 50-Pint Dehumidifier is simple to use, powerful, and needs no app to download.
Of course, if you fall on the other side of that argument and love a good app to control your devices from another part of the house, Frigidaire’s unit isn't for you. But that’s really about its only shortcoming. It’s a reliable and powerful unit with a few salient features (which is essentially all you'll need), but no other bells and whistles.

Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier review: Design
Frigidaire’s 50 Pint Dehumidifier is quite large at 41 pounds and almost 25 inches high. It’s intended to control humidity in larger spaces up to 1,200 square feet. To make it easier to move this large unit around, Frigidaire includes caster wheels and a handle on top that stows away when not in use.
A front-loading water bucket holds almost two gallons of water and is easy to pull out for quick emptying. If you prefer, you can use the continuous drain option instead, and run a hose (not included) to a drain so you don’t have to worry about emptying the bucket at all.
Notably, the Energy Star-certified 50-Pint Dehumidifier is designed for use in lower temperatures, down to 41 degrees Fahrenheit. That means it’s a good choice for chilly basements or garages. And if that basement or garage happens to be quite dusty, Frigidaire includes an easy-clean washable dust filter as well.
The controls are mounted on the top of the unit and are very simple to use. Simple push-button operation complements a small screen that indicates the current and set humidity levels. You can set a custom humidity control, and use the auto-shut-off feature to turn the unit off the bucket is full.
There are three fan speeds to choose from, and small lights on the top of the unit indicate which fan speed is currently in use. You can also set a timer on the top of the unit so it turns off after a specified amount of time.
Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier review: Performance
I first set up the Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier in the most humid room in my house: the basement bathroom. It’s a small space, not much more than 100 square feet, so this dehumidifier is a bit of overkill in there.
With the shower running, I’m able to get the humidity level up to around 90 percent. During my first test, the Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier was able to bring the humidity level down from 90% to 35% in just forty minutes. That’s very quick, and not surprising given the size of this unit.
When I ran the 50-Pint Dehumidifier in the larger basement space, around 1,000 square feet including the laundry room and storage room, the initial humidity level was around 50% to start. The Frigidaire dehumidifier got the humidity level to 35% in just 20 minutes. All of the humidity measurements on the unit matched up almost perfectly with my Alexa air quality monitor.
So the Frigidaire 50-Pint Dehumidifier works exceptionally quickly, especially on the highest fan setting. It’s ideal for large spaces, or very humid spaces that you’ll need to get under control quickly.
It pulls about 350 watts when it’s running on high, and about 40 watts when it’s plugged in but not running. That’s on a par with other Energy Star-certified units in this size range such as the Honeywell 50 Pint Dehumidifier.
If you did have a smaller room however, or don't mind a basic spec, the GE 35 Pint Dehumidifier would be more suitable. During our tests, this worked quickly in small spaces, and gave a decent performance. The only thing it lacked was an app, however, it did well to get the job done.
App
The Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier does not come with an app or any other type of remote connectivity. At this price, it would be a big improvement if it did include some sort of app so you can control the unit when you’re not in the same physical space.
If you did prefer an app control however, the HomeLabs 22 Pint Dehumidifier has an excellent app, which is easy to use.
Noise levels
While Frigidaire advertises the average sound rating at 51 decibels on high, my decibel meter measured an average of about 63 decibels. That’s on a par with other large dehumidifiers I’ve tested.
Still, that’s quite loud for smaller spaces, and if you’ll be spending time in that space while the unit is running on high, you might find the noise intrusive. If it’s running in another room, though, the noise level is appropriate and easy enough to forget about.
However, if you preferred not to be disturbed all the time, you could opt for the HomeLabs 22 Pint Dehumidifier. Not only did this perform well in our tests, but I was impressed with its quiet operation, around 55 decibels
Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier review: Verdict
If you’re after a very simple, easy to use, and powerful dehumidifier for a medium to large space (1,200 square feet is about the maximum), the Frigidaire 50 Pint Dehumidifier is a great option.
Its no-frills design is super simple to operate, and it pulls a lot of moisture very quickly. It excels in super-damp environments. The trade-off for all that power is size, weight, and noise. It’s a large and heavy unit, though it’s easy to move around when it’s on the floor thanks to the handle and casters.
The only other real drawback is the lack of an app to control it remotely. Otherwise, it’s an excellent unit for large spaces that comes in at a fair price for all its power.
