Bear Elite vs Cloverland Hybrid mattress: price
- Both are premium mattresses with evergreen discounts
- A queen Bear Elite is $1,614 with a 120-night trial and free bedding bundle
- A queen Cloverlane is $1,999 a 365-night trial and free white glove delivery
At Bear, you can expect to save 30% on the Elite Hybrid Mattress throughout the year. This reduces a queen to $1,614 (was $2,305), and each mattress comes with a free bedding bundle including pillows, sheets, and a mattress protector. You also have the option of adding a Celliant-infused cooling cover — a queen with the upgrade is typically $1,754 (was $2,505).
If you aren't in a rush to buy, Bear does tend to increase the discount around the major sales days. Keep an eye out for 35% and even 40% off, although these larger deals only strike from time to time and they never last for very long.
Like Bear, you can also expect a big saving at Cloverlane. A queen is typically sold for $1,999 (was $3,648), and some sizes have more than 50% off the MSRP. The sale price rarely wavers, so we don't expect to see any better discounts around the major holidays. While the queen Cloverlane is more expensive than the comparable Bear Elite, it's worth noting the twin Bear Elite is cheaper. So when it comes to price, the best deal might depend on the size.
You won't get any free gifts with the Cloverlane Hybrid, but you do get a 365-night sleep trial and a lifetime warranty, plus free white glove delivery. Bear also offers a lifetime warranty, but the other benefits aren't quite so good: a 120-night trial and free standard delivery.
Bear Elite Hybrid mattress: was from 1,893 now $1,326 + free bedding bundle at Bear
Bear runs regular sales throughout the year, and the current 30% off deal is fairly standard. A queen is $1,614 right now, down from $2,305, and comes with a free bedding bundle and a lifetime warranty. But if you can wait, we expect to see something better for Black Friday...
Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress: was from $2,531 now $999 at Cloverlane
Cloverlane mattress sales are evergreen and offer a hefty discount from MSRP. A queen will set you back $1,999 in the sale, reduced from $3,648, and the benefits are as generous as the savings: a 365-night trial, a lifetime warranty, and free white glove delivery.
Bear Elite vs Cloverland Hybrid mattress: materials & design
- Both are hybrid mattresses with springs and foams
- Bear Elite is 14" tall with four internal layers
- Cloverlane is 15" tall with four internal layers plus a plush Euro Top
Like all of the best hybrid mattresses, the Bear Elite and Cloverlane balance sturdy and supportive springs with upper layers of comfort materials. But while there are some similarities in the build, let's peek beneath the covers at the differences.
The Bear Elite is a 14" hybrid mattress with four internal layers plus a quilted cover. Sitting just underneath this cover is a layer of copper-infused body-cradling memory foam, followed by a layer of supportive transition foam. Next comes the coils, each individually wrapped with extra-reinforced coils around the edges. Finally a high-density foam adds support to the entire mattress.
As standard, the Bear Elite Hybrid mattress comes with a quilted cover featuring Phase Change Material. Phase Change Material is designed to draw heat away from the body, but for very hot sleepers, you can upgrade to a Celliant-infused cover. This high-tech addition features Sleep Recovery Technology, to regulate temperature and promote overall wellbeing.
At the top of the Cloverlane sits a Euro Top, a quilted foam cover infused with heat wicking tech. Below the cover is a layer of contouring gel-infused memory foam, followed by durable latex foam, zoned to the middle third of the bed. Next is a transitional support foam, before finally the individually wrapped coils with foam railings around the edges.
In this comparison we're focusing on the Cloverlane Hybrid, but this model is also available as an all-foam build. The foam Cloverlane has a similar construction to the hybrid model, but instead of springs, there's a 9" layer of dense support foam.
Bear Elite vs Cloverland Hybrid mattress: comfort & support
- Both mattresses are available in three firmness levels (soft, medium, firm)
- Bear Elite has a gentle contouring feel and strong edges
- Cloverlane is firmer than expected, but provides more sink when broken in
Both the Cloverlane Hybrid and Bear Elite mattresses are available in three different firmness levels: soft, medium, and firm. This is a common feature of the best luxury mattresses, allowing you to pick the feel that suits your sleep preferences. We rate firmness on a scale of one to ten, with ten being rock hard and one super soft.
For our Bear Elite Hybrid mattress review, we tested the bed in a medium feel. Our testing panel found it on the softer side of medium, but largely accurate to the Bear judgement. Based on this, we assume the other feels are close to the Bear description.
The quilted cover and upper foam layers are designed to be cushioning without the sink-in feel that can accompany foams. As we discovered during our testing, the foams gently "nestle" around you, providing pressure relief that still allows for easy movement. We recommend the medium feel for back sleepers and heavier side sleepers. Average weight side sleepers should consider the soft, while stomach sleepers should opt for the firm.
Our Cloverlane Hybrid Mattress review panel tested the Plush Soft version, which the brand suggests is a four on the firmness scale. Our testers found it much firmer than this at first, although it did soften during the mattress breaking in period. Still, based on our experience we expect all feels to lean slightly firmer than you might expect.
Our testers found the cushioned Euro Top provides good pressure relief with the foams contouring to the pressure points. The zoned latex layer adds stability to the lumbar region, and the majority of our testers were happy with the overall support level. However, those with back pain and stomach sleepers should choose a firmer build.
Hybrid mattresses typically have a bit of bounce, and this can be disruptive if you share with a restless sleeper. However, both the Bear Elite and Cloverlane Hybrid impressed us with their motion isolation capabilities, and most bed sharers should sleep easily.
The Bear Elite mattress did come out on top in our edge support tests — although it's weaker at the head and foot, the sides are strong. While the edge support on the Cloverlane Hybrid isn't bad, some of our testers felt a touch unsteady when sitting on the edges.
Bear Elite vs Cloverland Hybrid mattress: temperature regulation
- Bear Elite Hybrid mattress uses Phase Change Material for cooling
- Upgrade the Bear Elite with a Celliant-infused cover for enhanced cooling
- Cloverlane uses gel foam, perforated lated, and air vents
We reviewed the Bear Elite with the upgraded Celliant-infused cooling cover. Our lead tester found it effective at temperature control, keeping cool even in the hottest room of the house. Without the Celliant-infused cover upgrade, we expect the Bear Elite to sleep slightly warmer, However, it is a hybrid, so the cooling should still be reasonably effective as coils aid air flow.
The Cloverlane uses a variety of features to keep temperatures even, including perforated latex foam, gel-infused memory foam, brass air vents, and breathable springs. We found that while "not profoundly cooling", the Cloverlane stays a comfortable temperature overnight. However, hot sleepers should consider the best cooling mattresses instead.
Bear Elite vs Cloverland Hybrid mattress: should you buy?
Buy the Bear Elite mattress if...
✅ You sleep warm: The Bear Elite might not be a dedicated cooling mattress, but the Celliant-infused cover upgrade kept our testing panel a pleasant temperature all night long, even when sleeping in the hottest room of the house.
✅ You want to replace your entire bed: With a pillow, mattress protector, and sheet set included (plus your brand new mattress), the Bear Elite is a top choice for those who want a completely refreshed sleep set up.
✅ You're a side sleeper who wants a soft bed: While both the Bear Elite and Cloverlane are available in softer feels, our testers found the Cloverlane firmer than expected. Side sleepers, particularly those with a lighter build, should opt for the Bear Elite.
Buy the Cloverlane Hybrid mattress if...
✅ You like premium benefits: The Cloverlane comes with a 365-night trial, a lifetime warranty, and free white glove delivery. These extras aren't unusual for a premium mattress, but they're better than Bear's offering and a good bonus.
✅ You like some sink in your cushioning: Although the Cloverlane doesn't have the deep sink of some of the best memory foam mattresses, the Euro Top cushioning has ample pressure relief with a touch of a body-hugging feel.
✅ You want added lumbar support: The latex layer is zoned to the central third of the mattress to add durable support at the spine. Our tester with arthritis would have preferred a little more support here, but our lead tester found it prevented any back pain flare up.
