But the last two times these side have met in a T20 World Cup the games have been very tight. In 2016, Bangladesh were poised to win their Super 10 group game with India, which would have eliminated India from a T20 World Cup they were hosting. Bangladesh needed two runs from the last three balls, bowled by Hardik Pandya. But Bangladesh lost wickets to each of these three balls, two to catches on the leg side boundary and then one to a run out off the last ball, to lose by a run.

In 2016, in Adelaide, Bangladesh had needed 21 off the last nine balls, but ended up losing by five runs.

India won the first T20 World Cup, in 2007, and were runners up in 2014. Bangladesh, one of nine teams to have played in all nine T20 World Cups, have never reached the semi finals of a T20 World Cup.
