NordVPN tops our guide to the best VPNs, and it's one of the biggest names in tech – let alone cybersecurity. With tons of features included in the base plan, and even more available as add-ons, in our NordVPN review we found it provides just about everything you'll need from a VPN.

However, while it has plenty of features and is simple to use, navigating the pricing plans can be a little complex. If you've been weighing up a subscription, you might have noticed that there are a number of different service tiers, and the price of each varies depending on how long you sign up for.

With this handy guide, we'll break down the prices and differences so you can decide which plan is the best option for you – and we've included the special Black Friday VPN deals the brand is offering, too.

Essential info

Before we get to the prices, you need to be aware that if you've visited the NordVPN site before, you will see different prices. This is because NordVPN uses a timer that increases the price after around 10 hours.

To avoid this, always open any links to NordVPN in an incognito tab – this way, you'll appear as a new user, and get the best price possible.

While we don't agree with the company doing this, we do think NordVPN offers a very good product. So, if you want to try it out, make sure to do this to make your money go further.

Best NordVPN deals at a glance

I've outlined each plan in detail further down the page, but if you just want the best NordVPN price for each subscription level, pick from the list below:

NordVPN Basic pricing

NordVPN Basic starts at $2.99 per month on the 2-year plan.

NordVPN Basic is, as you may have guessed, the cheapest way to get access to NordVPN. With it, you'll get access to every location and server, with no limitations on how much you can use it or connection speed. In reality, it's the plan most people should go for.

As with most subscription services, a longer-term plan will give you a better deal. It's much cheaper (per month) to subscribe for a year or two rather than one month at a time.

You do have to pay the whole amount upfront on the longer plans, but a 30-day money-back guarantee means you have a month to make sure it works for you without sacrificing a hefty wad of cash.

The NordVPN deals above are available to all new customers, so make sure you open those links in Incognito to avoid being stung as a repeat visitor.

NordVPN Plus pricing

NordVPN Plus starts at $3.89 per month on the 2-year plan.

Although more expensive than the Basic plan, NordVPN Plus gives you access to its Threat Protection Pro tool. This is an antivirus equivalent that protects you from malware, phishing and suspicious links even when the VPN isn't enabled. Plus, you'll also get access to Nord's data breach scanner and password manager tool, NordPass

It's a good choice if you think you'll use these extra tools, and also means that within the app you won't have any tabs of settings that are grayed out.

If you're heading through from Google, you may notice that the prices are slightly higher than this. Tom's Guide readers receive a discount – but make sure to open the link in Incognito to beat that price hike once the timer runs out.

NordVPN Ultimate pricing

NordVPN Ultimate starts at $5.89 per month on the 2-year plan.

The name might suggest that this is the biggest and best of the plans, but there's still one more level to go. However, Ultimate is an appealing option since it includes everything from the previous plans, as well a 1 TB of NordLocker cloud storage.

It also includes $1M of identity theft recovery and $100K of cyber extortion protection (both underwritten by HSB Specialty Insurance Company). These two items are likely why you'd be choosing the Ultimate plan, so if you consider yourself at risk of these threats, it could be a good choice.

Once again, you may find higher prices should you head straight through from a search engine, and if you can't see the deals above, try opening the link in a new incognito window.

NordVPN Prime pricing

NordVPN Prime starts at $7.89 per month on the 2-year plan.

NordVPN Prime is the daddy, the include-it-all package that offers everything the company has to offer. On top of the VPN, Threat Protection Pro, 1 TB of NordLocker storage and Cyber Insurance, you'll also get:

  • Dark Web Monitoring
  • 1-Bureau credit monitoring
  • VantageScore 3.0 credit score by TransUnion
  • Credit freeze assistance

You may well be asking why you'd want your VPN to start getting involved in your credit score – but that's a question for another day. If you want all of this, NordVPN Prime is only way to get it.

As with all other plans, prices may vary should you head through to the site from a search engine. Open the link in an incognito tab to get the best deal.

NordVPN is probably the most popular VPN around, and in our testing it proved to be the most effective, too. It's one of the fastest VPNs, and it's superb for streaming. NordVPN is also jam-packed with privacy-enhancing tools to secure your day-to-day browsing. Plans start at $2.99 per month, and you can try it out with its 30-day money-back guarantee and claim a full refund if you don't like it.

How good is NordVPN?

In our opinion, it's the best. NordVPN combines a user-friendly experience, supreme speed and top-level security in one package. It's also one of the best value VPNs out there and sits between the premium-priced ExpressVPN and out top cheap VPN Surfshark.

Nord is also our number one choice for the best streaming VPN. It has an excellent record for unblocking the biggest streaming services like Netflix and letting users access region-locked content.
