4 reasons why ExpressVPN is still the best iPhone VPN

ExpressVPN's simple approach to virtually everything is one of the main reasons it's so popular across all platforms and why we consider it one of the best VPNs.
It's also why it consistently tops our best VPN for iPhone list – perfect for if you're looking to protect your iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, or iPhone Air with a VPN.
It's quick to set up, incredibly easy to use, and is the benchmark for set-and-forget VPN providers.
A built-in auto-connect feature ensures you're always connected to a secure server, allowing you to surf the internet knowing your data is protected.
Since a VPN encrypts your data before it leaves your device, neither your internet service provider nor curious third parties can read or make sense of it.

Why is ExpressVPN the best VPN for iPhone?
When looking for a quality iPhone VPN – and a good VPN regardless of the platform – privacy and security are critical considerations. However, speed, ease of use, and support are just as important.
Below, I'll go into how ExpressVPN's iPhone app performs in these areas.
1. It's super easy to use
ExpressVPN's iOS app best demonstrates the provider's heavy focus on ease of use. You have everything you need to get up and running in mere seconds, and the massive on/off button you're greeted by immediately after opening the app is just what the doctor ordered.
However, don't make the mistake of thinking that the simple interface translates into a lack of other features. On the contrary, expert-level, technical settings are abundantly present; they're just tucked away for convenience.
If you're an average user, though, you won't need any of them. A quick set-and-forget action will send you on your way, effortlessly browsing while knowing you're backed up by tried-and-tested privacy features.
Open up the app, tap the big on/off button, and if you have no particular preference of which server you'd like to connect to, you're good to go.
If you do prefer choosing your own server, you're (only) a tap away from a scrollable list containing 160 server locations in 105 countries. There's 3,000+ servers worldwide, including one in every US state.
Its UI recently underwent a re-design, meaning it looks even better on mobile. You can also now create an ExpressVPN iPhone widget and even connect to your VPN using Siri.
2. Its privacy is unmatched
ExpressVPN tends to be at the forefront of VPN innovations, with privacy and security being no different.
It was one of the first VPN providers to adopt post-quantum encryption – the new industry standard – across all platforms.
There's also a reliable kill switch designed to cut off your connection if your VPN drops out.
ExpressVPN's Advanced Protection is decent, but not the best, at keeping malware and trackers at bay. A lite version is included with ExpressVPN Basic and the full version with ExpressVPN Advanced and ExpressVPN Pro.
The provider has recently completed its third no-logs audit, taking its wider audit total to 23. You can be confident it will never log, share, or sell your data.
It boasts obfuscated servers and its RAM-only TrustedServer network ensures servers, along with any traces of your data, are regularly wiped.
3. It has decent speeds
ExpressVPN isn't the fastest VPN we've tested, but its speeds are still good.
In our latest round of testing, its Lightway protocol speeds clocked 400+ Mbps. This was somewhat disappointing, considering we've historically seen ExpressVPN exceed 900 Mbps+. However, you may experience faster speeds than this – ExpressVPN is capable of it.
Lightway Turbo exceeded 1,000 Mbps but sadly this is a Windows VPN exclusive. The provider's OpenVPN speeds were the best out of any VPN we tested. It recorded speeds of 898 Mbps, double that of its closest competitor, Surfshark.
OpenVPN is traditionally a slower VPN protocol, so these results are very promising.
Despite a drop-off in speeds, ExpressVPN is more than fast enough to stream 4K content with ease – which is arguably all that matters. As an iPhone VPN goes, ExpressVPN is still more than fast enough for the average users' needs.
4. There's 24/7 support
Customer support is something ExpressVPN has always done well.
The range of articles in the support center knowledgebase is superb, with tons of in-depth tutorials and guides.
There's a 24/7 live chat, which is always quicker to use from your iPhone than having to start up another device. This live chat used to be industry-leading, but has since been disappointingly scaled back.
An AI chatbot is the first to answer. It can be helpful but if you want to speak to a human agent, we found the wait time was approximately 10 minutes. Email support is also available.
ExpressVPN's customer support may not be what it once was, but it's still very helpful and its 24/7 availability means you can contact the provider any time you need.
Should I use ExpressVPN?
As a result of its intuitive app designs, superb connection times, and industry-leading privacy credentials, ExpressVPN is the best iPhone VPN at the moment.
The three tiers of plan mean there's a plan for everyone and you can pay for the features you need.
If your primary device for browsing the internet is an iPhone, ExpressVPN is absolutely the best choice.
