I've just spotted a major discount on this ripper NBN 1000 deal

Hello 2025! With the changing of calendars often comes new resolutions, including saving more of your hard-earned cash. While there are plenty of ways to save on your NBN bill, some of those can be detrimental to the overall quality of service, connection and speeds (particularly if you skip reading the T&Cs).

That said, there's one NBN provider that has proven time and again that you really can get great bang for your buck, while also serving up some breakneck speeds. Meet SpinTel — one of the largest privately owned ISPs in Australia that has been connecting customers online since 1996. SpinTel has garnered over 11K positive customer reviews for easy set-up and support, earning a rating of 4.4 out of 5 stars on ProductReview.

Recently, SpinTel's attractively priced NBN 1000 plan has come down even further, with its ongoing cost discounted by an extra AU$5p/m. This brings the total monthly cost to a very modest AU$90p/m for the first six months, before returning to AU$100.95p/m ongoing. With a total first-year cost of AU$1,145.70, that makes it the cheapest NBN 1000 plan currently on offer — and it's massively cheaper than the AU$119.57p/m average price for this plan speed.

For an even more favourable price comparison, this plan costs less than Telstra's NBN 50 plan at AU$105p/m and yet delivers 13x the speeds. And when compared to Telstra's NBN 1000, you'll save a mammoth AU$49.05p/m and AU$588.60 per year!

SpinTel | NBN 1000 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$90p/m

SpinTel | NBN 1000 | Unlimited data | No lock-in contract | AU$90p/m (for 6 months, then AU$100.95p/m)

Advertising a modest 650Mbps during the busy evening hours, this SpinTel deal slashes AU$10.95p/m off the first six months — that's AU$65.70 total — before the price increases. What's even more impressive though is that this plan used to cost AU$95p/m, so it has received a nice AU$5 discount to sweeten the deal. Note this plan is only available to FTTP and HFC addresses.

Total minimum cost: AU$90 | Total first-year cost: AU$1,145.70 | Yearly cost after discount: AU$1,211.40

SpinTel is a Tom's Guide preferred partner (What does this mean?)

When comparing speeds across the NBN 1000 tier, this plan doesn't quite reach the theoretical maximum, as it only advertises 650Mbps during busy evening hours. However, that doesn't discredit the plan entirely, as 650Mbps is more than enough speed for any heavy internet user or large household with multiple devices.

It's important to note that there are plenty of speed discrepancies on the NBN 1000 tier and there's only one provider (Swoop) that comes close to reaching the theoretical maximum of 1,000Mbps. Most ISPs, however, offer speeds within the 650-850Mbps range, which should more than satisfy the need for ultrafast speeds.

What's more, according to the ACCC's latest quarterly report, high-speed plans constantly exceed advertised speed claims. The average download speed for a very high-speed NBN service in September 2024 was 863.6Mbps during all hours of the day. So despite only claiming 650Mbps, we could reasonably suspect that SpinTel's plan has the potential to reach faster speeds.

Keep in mind that SpinTel's plans don't come with a modem, but you can add a TP-Link EasyMesh Gateway to your order, starting from AU$139.95 upfront. You can optionally add a mesh Wi-Fi extender onto that for an extra AU$99, especially if you live in a larger household and need greater Wi-Fi coverage.
