Amy Davies
Amy Davies is a journalist and photographer. She reviews and tests DSLRs, mirrorless cameras, smartphones, compact cameras, bridge cameras, smartphones, lenses, and photographic accessories. She began writing about photography in 2009 and has used just about every camera and smartphone launched in that time, and a great deal of the lenses and accessories too. Having been working with all the latest equipment for well over a decade, she’s well-placed to advise on best-buys for many different types of photographer, and many different budgets.
Since 2018, Amy has been the Features Editor of Amateur Photographer, the world’s oldest consumer photography magazine, which is published weekly. There she interviews the world’s best photographers, talking to them about their latest projects and showcasing fantastic photography. She also regularly continues to contribute to a number of different high-profile and well-respected photography and technology outlets, including TechRadar, Digital Camera World, Photography Blog, Expert Reviews, Stuff, Trusted Reviews, T3, and Wired. Here, she primarily writes technical articles, such as reviews, technical explainers and buying guides.
Amy was also once part of the photography testing team for Future Publishing, working across TechRadar, Digital Camera, PhotoPlus, N Photo and Photography Week. For her photography, she has won awards and has been exhibited on several occasions. She has a penchant for taking part in unusual photography projects, including one hectic and intense year which involved using a different camera every single day - finding 365 different devices to use was about as complicated as it sounds. Another project involved photographing and interviewing independent business owners in Cardiff’s famous Victorian arcades. The project received widespread press and social media attention and led to an associated column in The Guardian newspaper. During the Covid lockdowns of 2020-2021, she challenged herself to photograph only subjects within walking distance of her home. She holds a degree in journalism and a postgraduate diploma in Magazine Journalism from the prestigious Cardiff University Journalism school (JOMEC). She lives in Cardiff, Wales and is usually found with her miniature dachshund who will willingly pose for camera reviews, so long as treats are involved.
