The AirPods Max are an impressive pair of headphones. They feature a design unlike anything else out there, have some excellent sound quality, and some of the best controls in the business. They're also some very, very expensive headphones, with a $100 price premium over their closest rivals.

At the moment though you can save $150 on the headphones — the AirPods Max are currently just $399 at Amazon. That's a big saving on some excellent cans, and the lowest they've been for some time.

Apple AirPods Max: was $549 now $399 at Amazon

Apple's AirPods Max are a stunning looking and sounding pair of headphones. They're comfortable for long periods of time, and feature some very good ANC. We particularly like their Spatial Audio performance and intuitive controls scheme in our review — although we did have to take points away for the bad carrying case that comes in the box. This $150 saving brings them down to their lowest price ever.

The AirPods Max are amongst some of the best noise canceling headphones that money can buy thanks to their excellent ANC. While not quite at the same level as the Bose QuietComfort Ultra headphones, they manage to block out enough noise that you can enjoy your music, audiobooks and podcasts in even the noisiest environments.

They also feature a very neutral sound signature, making for a less bassy experience. That's not to say there's no bass, of course — but it's very controlled and smooth. Soundstage is wide as well, so you'll be more engaged and immersed in your music.

There's only one weakness to the AirPods Max, and that's the case that comes in the box. It's a flimsy thing, and it doesn't really protect the headphones all that much. You're much better off with one of the best cases for AirPods Max.

This price is on the Lightning version — while the newer USB-C version have seen some discounts recently, the much cheaper Lightning version are still the cans we'd recommend, if not only for the price. The connector at the bottom is the only difference between the two besides color choice.
