Matthew Richards
Matthew Richards is a full-time professional freelance photographer and journalist with more than 20 years standing. His passion for photography began as a child, learning from his father who was also a professional, based in London UK, and the first person to win fellowships simultaneously in two different categories from the Royal Photographic Society.
After qualifying as an electronics engineer back in the 1980s, Matthew began his career at the BBC, where he worked for several years testing and installing video cameras and studio equipment. He later moved into journalism and worked as a feature writer, technical reviews writer and editor-in-chief, on several computing and technology magazines at Future Publishing.
After going freelance in 2001, Matthew took on photographic assignments for various clients, working on locations including the UK, USA, Mauritius, Malaysia and China. Combining his interests in photography, technology and journalism, he has also reviewed an almost countless quantity of cameras, lenses, flashguns, studio lighting kits, tripods, printers and other photographic accessories over the last 20 years. He contributes regularly to some of the world’s leading photographic magazines, including Digital Camera, Digital Photographer, N-Photo and PhotoPlus, as well as frequently being commissioned to submit reviews for photographic websites. Matthew also writes online photographic articles for Canon.
